LETTER OF ACCEPTANCES AND REJECTIONS
ACCEPTANCES BY KINGDOM
Kingdom of Ansteorra
Adelicia of Gilwell. Sable, an apple argent.
Anborn Athelson of Bardingale. Gyronny azure and argent,
a cross potent between in pall three fleur-de-lys counterchanged.
Badge for House of Bardingale. (Anborn's previous device).
Per pale indented gules and Or, in fess a sun Or and a pheon sable.
Anborn Athelson of Bardingale. Badge for Household of the Traghalte. Per chevron sable and argent, a chevronel and in chief a mullet of six concave points argent.
Note: The drawing shows a fimbriation line instead of a chevronel,
which is five times wider than what is shown. The mullet as shown
has practically straight points. If you want a mullet of concave
points it must be decidedly concave so you can see at a distance
that this is so. It should look like this:
Please send in a new drawing with a correct chevronel and concave
mullet for my file. Note that this is still a mullet of six points.
The concavity is a minor point of difference from a straight-pointed
mullet.
The following are registered to the Kingdom of Ansteorra itself-
Kingdom of Ansteorra. Or , a mullet of five greater and
five lesser points sable within a laurel wreath vert, in chief
a crown dancetty, all within a tressure sable, overall issuant
from base a demi-sun gules.
Queen of Ansteorra. Or, a mullet of five greater and five
lesser points sable within a wreath of six roses sable, barbed,
slipped and leaved vert, each rose charged with another Or, seeded
sable, barbed vert, in chief a crown dancetty, all within a tressure
sable, overall issuant from base a demi-sun gules.
Kingdom Ensign. Or, a mullet of five greater and five lesser points within a bordure sable.
Note: This is a badge which may be used by any citizen of the
kingdom to show their citizenship. It should be born on a swallow-tail
pennant.
King's Battle Flag. Or, the sinister tierce embattled gules, in canton a mullet of five greater and five lesser points sable.
Note: This badge is the personal battle flag of the King of Ansteorra
and may only be used by him while he is King.
Queen of Ansteorra. Badge of the Ansteorran Rose.
A rose sable charged with a rose Or, thereon a mullet of five
greater and five lesser points sable.
Kingdom of Ansteorra for The Sable Crane of Ansteorra. Or, a crane in its vigilance sable, armed, orbed, membered, crested and throated Or, fimbriated sable, bearing in its dexter claw a mullet of five greater and five lesser points sable.
Note: A crane in its vigilance is statant with its dexter foreleg
upraised.
Order of the Iris of Merit of Ansteorra. Or, a mullet of
five greater and five lesser points voided sable, overall in fess
a natural rainbow proper between and issuant from two clouds argent.
Badge for The Lions of Ansteorra, Defenders of the Dream.
Or, a mullet of five greater and five lesser points sable, overall
a lion rampant argent.
The Sable Thistle of Ansteorra. Argent, a Mexican Thistle sable, slipped and leaved Or. (Cnicus conspicuus).
Note: When naming the order this is to be used as a badge for,
remember that it cannot be called the Order of the Sable Thistle
as that is too close to the Order of the Thistle, the highest
award in Scotland.
(End of Kingdom badges, for now.)
Aureliane Rioghail. Name change from Aureliane Rigel.
David Gallowglass. Argent, on a pile sable an anvil and in chief in saltire a sledge-hammer and a dagger argent.
Note: The emblazon must be redrawn with a period two-horned
anvil instead of a modern single-horned anvil. I do not need
a new sketch, but it should be done this way in the future.
Dierdre de Clarik. Per chevron sable and azure, a comet palewise argent, bearded Or.
Note: A comet's tale heraldically is known as its beard.
Duncan Carruthers. Or, seven ewes tergiant erect, heads to dexter, limbs spread in saltire, three, three and one, vert.
Note: Displayed applies only to winged creatures. The above method describes the equivalent position for four-legged creatures who are spread out with their backs to the viewer. If the legs are vertical or horizontal they would be spread in pale or in fess. We cannot put the pun about the seven vert-ewes displayed in the blazon but everyone should guess it when they see it.
Egan O'Keefe. Vert, on a pile azure fimbriated argent between
two African leopards rampant addorsed, a leopard's head caboshed
Or.
Elizabeth of Erisbey. Ermine, a horse's head erased gules, incensed and gorged of a collar Or.
Note: I have changed this from d'Erisbey to of Erisbey because
Erisbey is not French, and therefore the use of d' is not appropriate.
Eugène de Doven. Per pale sable and argent, two
griffins segreant combatant mullety counterchanged.
Frank the Illiterate Scribe. Badge. A sun gules within
and interlacing with its rays an annulet Or.
Geof Weakarm. Vert, an Irish short sword notched to dexter
between in fess a dexter and a sinister hand couped appaumée,
all within a bordure argent.
Gwenere of Ben Murray. Purpure, in bend two krisses inverted
argent.
Eaimis Black Scorpion. Or, a scorpion tergiant bearing in its sinister claw a claymore sable, all within a bordurelet gules.
Note: A tergiant beast is by default palewise, with its back to
the viewer, with its limbs spread out in a natural position for
the creature. In this case the tail of the scorpion is curved
to sinister. This is default for a scorpion. A bordurelet is an
SCA creation which is a diminutive of a bordure, being only one-third
as wide as a bordure, but still being the edge of the shield.
Isobel des Tourelles de la Seine. Per bend sable and vert, a swan's head embowed erased at the shoulder argent, beaked and gorged of a collar Or, and a tower argent.
Note: By default these are palewise in bend sinister.
Jeannette du Bois. Per fess azure and vert, a cross embattled
argent between in bend sinister a seagull volant (Larus marinus),
wings elevated and addorsed, proper and a sea-horse (Synghathidae
hippocampus hudsonius) counter-erect argent.
Jonathan DeLaufyson Macebearer. Name change from Jonathan Macebearer.
Note: Jonathan has given a plausible derivation of DeLaufyson
as a Norman surname. This plus the use of Jonathan, an English
name, and the English sobriquet of Macebearer, plus the minor
spelling difference, is just enough to avoid the appearance of
claiming to be the grandson of Laufey, the mother of Loki, the
Norse God of Mischief. Had he tried for Erik DeLaufyson or any
other Norse give name it wouldn't have worked.
Joselyn Allyne Reynard. Ermine, a red fox couchant between
two tiger lilies, slipped and leaved, conjoined in annulo proper.
(Vulpes vulpes, Lilium tigrinum).
Liam Airlie MacRioghail O'Cadal. Argent, a cross avellane
dismembered within a bordure wavy argent.
Lloyd von Eaker. Gules, a rattlesnake coiled lozengy erminois and pean, rattled, armed, langed, and wearing an embattled crown argent.
Note: He is (or was by now) King of Ansteorra and so is allowed
a crown. Crowns are reserved for Kingdoms, Principalities, Dukes,
Duchesses, Counts, Countesses, Viscounts and Viscountesses. I
have decided that lozengy with each lozenge being actually a delf
saltirewise (ie a diamond with 90 degree angles), which used to
be blazoned as checky per saltire to difference it from the lozengy
that is normally more elongated palewise, is really just a minor
variation of lozengy. If you did the arms on a square banner lozengy
would become a diamond pattern. Therefore I consider it a matter
of artistic license as to the exact angle of the lozengy. A note
to the scribe in the file is sufficient, it need not be in the
blazon. I will probably change the other occurrences of checky
per saltire to lozengy.
Maddy the First Born. Azure, a bend between a sword argent,
hilted gules, and a mullet, all within a bordure argent.
Margaret Meri Dragonsfriende. Per saltire azure and vert,
a dragonfly tergiant displayed argent, orbed Or.
Roane Fairegae of Lochlann. Argent, on a pile throughout
azure a seal (Phoca vitulina) haurient argent.
Sesto Marco Vaerccio. Per chevron throughout sable and gules, a mask of comedy, a mask of tragedy argent, and a lyre Or.
Note: He cannot be De Cruce de Rosas, as he is not a member of
the Rosicrucians. By default the three charges are two in chief
and one in base.
Shire of the Shadowlands. Per pale azure and sable, issuant from the line of division a demi-compass star and a demi-annulet, in base a laurel wreath Or.
Note: By default, the demi-compass star is a demi-compass
star of eight points and is issuing to the dexter from the line
of division at the center point. Similarly the demi-annulet
is issuing to the sinister also from the center point so that
it is conjoined to the demi-star. The laurel wreath overall
in base removes the appearance of dimidiated arms.
Shona of Red Wolf. Per pale embattled sable and argent,
in fess a wolf's head erased Or and another reversed gules.
Barony of the Steppes. Badge. Per bend vert and sable, a bend indented to chief and overall an oak wreath fructed Or.
Note: The acorns must be enlarged by a factor of two to three
to be in keeping with medieval practice and to remove the similarity
to a laurel wreath.
Tivar Moondragon. Sable, a torteau fimbriated and conjoined
in fess with an increscent and a decrescent Or.
Vlad Ravna. Quarterly argent and gules, a raven lying on its back, head to sinister, legs erect, sable, pierced of an arrow counterchanged.
Note: As per my ruling on nicknames I have omitted the nickname
of Starkraven. He could be Vlad Ravna Starkraven, but not Vlad
Ravna called Starkraven.
Wulf Blodstan of Graegmona. Per pale vert and gules, a bend between a wolf's head erased and a decrescent argent.
Note: He had a sheet of the emblazons of 37 acceptable changes
he would accepted in case this conflicted. Anyone who wants to
guarantee that SOMETHING will get passed should take note.
Kingdom of Atenveldt
Aleta of Helsgard. Badge. Vert, a great helm affronté
per pale sable and argent, ocularium counterchanged, plumed argent
and sable, fimbriated Or.
Arwyn Lyriel. Per bend sinister Or and azure, in chief
a cross moline fitchy gules and issuant from base a demi-sun
Or.
Bartholomew of Wolftwain. Gules, a saltire Or, overall in base two grey wolf's heads erased addorsed conjoined at the necks proper. (Canis lupus)
Note: In the case of mundane coats of arms consisting of a single-tinctured
field and a single-tinctured ordinary, only one full point
of difference is needed, as each combination is held by many families
and so you cannot be said to be a cadet branch of any one family.
The addition of a single secondary charge is not a full point
of difference. The addition of several secondary charges, or the
addition of a single major charge overall (which visually changes
the ordinary from the primary charge to a secondary charge) is
a full point and is sufficient. Therefore Bartholomew's conjoined
wolf's heads are a sufficient addition to difference from Gules,
a saltire Or, which is held by over a dozen families in Great
Britain alone. The addition of a single secondary charge, such
as a bezant in chief, to the field and ordinary would seem too
much like cadency, which is still forbidden. The addition of just
a bordure is not sufficient because bordures are marks of cadency
in Scotland.
Beorn-Wulf von Stauffenberg. Sable, a saltire potent
rebated clockwise in annulo gules, fimbriated or, overall a Norse
wolf passant argent.
Bernice of Brittany. Vert, a base rayonny gules, fimbriated Or, overall a tiger salamander tergiant palewise Or, and a chief indent argent. (Ambystoma tigrinum).
Note: Rayonny is a regular pattern. Please draw your base that
way. If you want random flames then call it a base of flame proper.
Dancetty is indented of three points. Since you have six it is
just indented. Your large indents are actually the correct way
to draw indented, instead of the modern fine-scale sawtooth
form.
Briony of Windemere. Sable, a sword Or surmounted by a
pellet fimbriated argent, thereon a unicorn's head couped, its
horn extending onto the field, Or.
Caer Galen, Shire of. Argent, issuant from the palm of
a dexter hand fesswise reversed couped azure a demi-sun gules
charged with a harp bendwise Or, and in base a laurel wreath vert.
Carl of Carmarthin. Badge for House Carmarthin. Azure,
masoned argent, a ram's head cabossed argent.
Edward Birnam. Vert, in bend a wooden staff bendwise sinister proper and a recurved Turkish bow palewise reversed, armed and drawn, argent.
Note: Objects in bend are bendwise unless otherwise stated. The
same holds true for pale, in fess in chevron, in pall, in bend
sinister, in cross, etc.
Elaine of the Lion's Tale. Azure, a bend between a lion sejant and a quill pen bendwise Or.
Note: As Lord Virgule says, the addition of a bordure (a single
charge) was ruled insufficient difference from Scrope in the Scrope
vs. Grosvener case in England. The addition of two different charges
is sufficient difference between a society device and mundane
arms. Hence Elaine's device does not conflict with Scrope.
Eleanora of the Gardens. Argent, a primrose (Primula vulgaris)
of three blossoms stalked and leaved proper within a bordure engrailed
vert.
Gunwaldt der Östermachen. Sable, a bear statant erect
affrontée, sinister forepaw upraised, within a bordure
Or.
Gunwaldt der Östermachen. Badge. Sable, a demi-bear
rampant erased Or.
Hillary Stormrider. Azure, an estoille within six dolphins naiant in annulo, all within a bordure Or.
Note: Her old device now becomes her badge.
Ioseph of Locksley. Badge. Per fess vert and argent, entwined about the forepillar of an Irish harp Or, a rose argent, barbed gules, slipped, leaved, and seeded proper.
Note: This is a change of his former badge which didn't have the
rose.
K'Alan Tauven. Vair en pointe, a giraffe statant proper. (Giraffa camelopardis).
Note: It is acceptable to make up a name. You don't have to contrive
derivations for made-up names, just say that it is a made-up
name.
Loch Salaan, Barony of. Per bend argent and sable, a laurel
wreath bendwise counterchanged.
Marishka of the Romanies. Azure, a mule-deer doe lodged at gaze and on a chief Or three wagon wheels of eight spokes gules. (Odecolleaus hanionus).
Martin the Fair Child. Or, on a cross azure between four
mullets of six points pierced gules a boy's head couped argent,
crined Or.
Mathilde Hèléne Caitlin MacCraobi. Per fess azure and vert, perched upon a buff fair-ring mushroom (Marasmius creades) a monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) wings addorsed proper.
Note: This is heraldic, but it is as close to a landscape as I
will accept.
Mika Longbow. Sable, a Viking longship under full sail
affrontée proper, the sail Or charged with six pallets
gules, all within eight mullets in annulo Or.
Nadine Geneviève Bayeux du Nord. Per fess rayonny sable and azure, in base an owl rampant guardant, dexter wing erect argent.
Note: Any creature with four limbs can be rampant if the limbs
are arranged in that specific artificial position. Wings count
as limbs, as do fins.
Pierre de Noves. Per fess argent and vert, in chief three
bars gules and in base two foxes passant in pale argent.
Pierre de Noves. Vert, a fox's mask within a bordure argent
charged with fourteen torteaux
Robert Fitz Norman. Name change from Robert ibn al-Normanii.
Russell Barborosa. Vert, semé of daisies proper,
a longhorn bull dormant guardant Or.
Zarabeth Nendray Ringcup. Purpure, a pale gules fimbriated Or, overall issuant from a ringed Greek wine cup a demi-annulet Or, enflamed vert, fimbriated Or, in base three bezants, one and two, voided purpure.
Note: Please draw the fimbriation on the pale wider.
Kingdom of Caid
Children of the Caidan Crescents. Vert, an acorn within a wreath of oak leaves Or and in chief three crescents argent.
Note: I need a new drawing with the oak leaf wreath. Did you want
it to be fructed as well?
Keradawc an Cai. Sable, three pheons and on a chief embattled argent an arrow sable fletched and nocked at both ends gules.
Note: The addition of a charged chief counts as 1½ points
of difference, one for the chief and ½ for the charges on
the chief. Caria means lover and Cariadoc means one who loves.
There is no K in Welsh. I will allow an anglicized form to allow
the K but then an a will have to be added, hence Keradawc, since
w is not a vowel in English as it is in Welsh. If you want the
Welsh form use a c not a k.
Korwin Windrider. Sable, estoilly, astride a pegasus volant argent, gorged of an trailing a rope Or, a brown-haired boy grasping the rope, vested of a brown tunic, proper.
Natalya Gregorovna of Shadowhyrst. Formerly Fiona Gregorovna.
Sable, a lion couchant, its head a sun in splendour, Or.
Kingdom of Meridies
Galán-Schol of Eirmeathe. Formerly Galan-Schol
von Met.
Mandrigal of Mu. Gules, a chimera couchant Or.
Taliesynne Nycheynwrh yr Anghyfannedd. Name change. Quarterly sable and gules, a unicorn counter-rampant argent charged with a prickspur Or, fimbriated sable.
Note: Change entry in ordinary to a badge.
Zan Andreas of the Blue Cave. Azure, a lightening flash bendwise sinister Or between two snowflakes argent.
Note: Appeal accepted.
Kingdom of the East
None received.
Kingdom of the Middle
None received.
Kingdom of the West
Alaric of Hraefsncrag. Argent, on a slaughter axe blade with a tripartite back, edge to base, gules a legless raven displayed, head to sinister, sable, fimbriated argent, all within a bordure sable.
Note: Appeal accepted.
Allaric of Hraefncrag. Badge. A slaughter axe with a tripartite
back, edge to base, gules.
Province Beyond the Rainbows. Formerly Province of Ceantyre.
Azure, on a mullet of four greater and eight lesser points Or
a laurel wreath within a rainbow, and a rainbow inverted conjoined
in annulo at the clouds gules, argent, azure, Or and purpure,
clouded argent.
Cynthis Fitz Colline. Per fess arched and debased azure
and argent, in chief a decrescent an increscent argent, and in
base a close book proper.
Cynthis Fitz Colline. Badge. Azure, a grey domestic cat sejant affrontée proper grasping in its mouth a fish Or and sitting upon a closed book bendwise sinister proper.
Note: The book is "kitty-corner."
Daniel Shadygrove. Sable, eight javelins conjoined in gyronny,
points outward, overall an armoured and bearded centaur salient,
grasping in dexter hand a sword and in sinister hand a shield,
all argent.
Däwyd Suomalainen von Markheim. Badge for Sesen Gerh
is now badge for Shu Gerh.
Ladies of the Bay. Badge. Per saltire azure and gules,
a goblet Or.
Megan Silverstar. Change of blazon. Sable, issuant from
base a Coast Live Oak tree proper, in canton a mullet of eight
points argent. (Quercus agrifolia).
Principality of the Mists. Ensign. Argent, on a saltire
engrailed azure a coronet of four points argent, all within a
bordure engrailed azure.
Raoul the Urbane. Badge for the Markheim Consort. Azure,
on a saltire patty throughout purpure fimbriated two recorders
in saltire argent.
Rowena d'Anjou. Formerly Rowena Douglas of Falconhurst.
Azure, on a pile inverted throughout between two fleur-de-lis
argent a swan naiant affrontée, wings elevated and addorsed,
head to sinister, sable.
Rowen d'Anjou. Badge. A calla lily (Zantedescia aethiopicum)
proper, stemmed and debruised by two call lily leaves in saltire
Or.
Susan the Opaque. Azure, a chevronel inverted argent, overall a sun sable, fimbriated argent.
Note: This was left out of the ordinary.
Vladimere Demetrius Vladislav. Per bend vert and sable, in pale a goat's head couped argent between an arrow fesswise reversed and an arrow fesswise Or.
Note: These were left off the printout for the Conclave.
Kingdom of the West. Badge for the Office of the Constable
Provost. Azure, a flanged mace between in fess two mullets Or.
REJECTED SUBMISSIONS BY KINGDOM
Kingdom of Ansteorra
Kingdom of Ansteorra for The Star of Ansteorra. Or, a mullet of five greater and five lesser points sable.
This conflicts with Ashton: Or, a mullet sable. The extra small
points are insufficient difference. This mullet is insufficiently
unique to warrant is own name in the ordinary. You can call it
the Star of Ansteorra in Ansteorra if you like but if can't go
into the ordinary that way.
Burke Kyriell MacDonald. Per bend argent and sable, a galley, sails furled, oars in action sable, flagged gules, and a sun eclipsed Or.
You need to obtain a letter from Kouroust Bernard of the East
Woods stating that he has no objections. He has Sable, a sun eclipsed
Or. If you paint your device on a round shield, a slight rotation
makes it look like you are impaling Burke's device with Argent,
a galley sable. His last known address was c/o John L. Lazar,
2024 W. Alemeda #12-F, Anaheim, Cal. 92805 in the Kingdom
of Caid. If that doesn't work you could put a brief add in the
Crown Prints. You could avoid the whole problem by using a line
of division for the per bend other than a straight line.
Buchwald Flashingquill. Per pale gules and azure, a lightning flash bendwise sinister argent within bordure Or.
Please make the bordure wider and put the lightning flash along
a proper bend sinister line. Right now it's halfway between palewise
and bendwise sinister. Otherwise the device is okay. Your name
is a problem. Buchwald is a German surname meaning of the Beechwood.
Flashingquill is a fine sobriquet. You have no given name. Please
choose a given name and resubmit.
Frea Geardson. Azure, a dragonship under full sail affrontée Or, sailed gules charged with six pallet argent.
The surname Geardson differences Frea sufficiently from Frey and
Freya, the Norse god and goddess, but only just. The sail is color
on color as it is really gules on azure. You would do better to
have argent charged with six pallet gules or paly of twelve gules
and argent. The device conflicts with the arms of Rover Cars.
Ltd.: Azure, a dragonship under full sail affrontée Or,
sailed gules, fimbriated Or. The only difference are the pallets
on the sail. Changing the ship from Or to proper would still be
insufficient, and would lose a lot of contrast, as brown on blue
doesn't work well. I suggest you change the field to vert.
Joan-Robert de Maison du Bois. Gyronny of 16 vert and azure, a bezant.
This conflicts with Tamsin of the Raven Tresses: Gyronny of 16
azure and Or, a bezant, and with Robert Hallwarden: Gyronny embattled
purpure and argent, a bezant. The excessive division of the field
into green and blue pieces is a bad idea given the lack of contrast
between the two.
Kingdom of Ansteorra
Jessika Peregrine of Stormgarth. Argent, a bar gules between five pomegranates proper.
This conflicts with Maulie: Argent, a fess between five pomegranates inverted gules. (Rietstaap) A single bar and a fess are not really visually different. Pomegranates proper are basically gules. I suggest you use a line of division on the bar, such as embattled.
Robert Galva'nnyze'd. Argent, a mullet of three points gyronny of six sable and argent.
The device is acceptable but the name is not. Galvanized is out
of period and this sort of joke name is not acceptable anyway.
If Robert wants a reference to steel, use a word for steel in
some language. If a mullet is the only charge then a significant
difference in the number of points is a full point of difference.
Sif Ironhand. Argent, a gauntlet reversed sable grasping three gillyflower gules, slipped and leaved vert, within a bordure gules.
The device is acceptable but the name is not. Sif is the wife
of Thor and a warrior in her own right. Ironhand is an epithet
that could easily apply to her. You may no more use her name than
you may her husband's. Pick a different given name and resubmit.
Kingdom of Atenveldt
Anna of Newbroke. Barry purpure and Or, a horse salient argent.
This conflicts with the Kent County Council: Gules, a horse forcené
argent, and with Lower Saxony: Gules, a horse salient argent.
Form now on people should not use forcené, as it is ambiguous,
but rather rampant or salient. I suggest turning the horse around
to make it counter-salient.
Aramir Elatar. Gyronny of eight from dexter chief azure and vert, in sinister a dolphin hauriant argent.
This conflicts with Walworth (Papworth, p. 335): Azure, a dolphin
haurient in pale argent. The half difference of the field plus
the slight movement to sinister are insufficient. Your name consists
of entirely royal prefixes. Ara is a prefix attached to the royal
names of the rulers of Númenor and all the chiefs of the
Dúnedain in Arnor, who took their names in Adunaic. (Aragorn,
Arathorn, etc). Mir does mean jewel. El was used as a royal prefix
by the Dunedain kings in Gondor and Arnor, and by many of the
Elven nobility (Ellacar, Eldarian, Elendil, Elendur, Elessar,
Elrond, Elwing, Elbereth, Elrohir, Elladin, Elros, etc.). Tar
was Quenya for royal king and was used as a royal prefix for Kings
of Numenor who took their names in Quenya. Start over and try
something a little less regal.
Kate Philippa o'Shion. Gules, a crescent within a spokeless Katherine wheel Or.
This conflicts with Ottarburn (Papworth p. 594): Gules, a crescent
Or.
Robin of Mightrinwood. Azure, a sun of eight wavy rays sable, fimbriated Or.
This conflicts with Susan the Opaque: Azure, a chevronel argent,
overall a sun sable, fimbriated argent, and with Wendryn: Azure,
a sun in glory Or.
End of Acceptances and Rejections.
