Karina of the Far West, Laurel Queen of Arms,

to the Heralds of the Kingdoms and the Principalities:

Greetings.

SUBJECT: POLICY ON MEMBERS WHO DISAPPEAR

From time to time it happens that an application is not quite different enough from one already accepted. In such cases, we may advice the applicant to get written consent from the holder. At present we have a case in which the holder of an earlier accepted device cannot be located: Gunnar Mulcha of Odin's Seat. Anne of Caerdydd has an application similar to his device.

We do not have any method for voiding acceptances when the holder leaves the Society. In fact, we have a definite policy that the arms of a deceased member are his forever. What, then, should we do in such cases as Gunnar Mulcha vs. Anne of Caerdydd? Possibilities include:

  1. Summon the person three times (by announcement in Kingdom newsletters). If he does not respond, assume consent is given.
  2. Same as (a), but if the absent person does not respond, assume consent is withheld.
  3. Poll the Kingdom Heralds and Laurel Staff.
  4. Flip a coin..

I am ready to entertain suggestions.

I remain at your service,

Karina of the Far West

Laurel Queen of Arms
