LETTER OF ACCEPTANCES AND REJECTIONS

Kingdom of Atenveldt

Akagawa Yoshio. Sable, a hexagon voided within another argent.

Asad UdDin. Quarterly vert and sable, a hawk's leg erased bendwise sinister Or, armed argent, grasping a pomme fimbriated argent.

Note: The appeal is granted concerning the bearing of representations of living things by Islamic person. The Shiites, among other Islamic sects, do not follow the rule. The College is not in the business of determining which Islamic sect's rules a follower of Islam must follow. Since some can display such symbols, in the SCA all can. If they want to violate the Koran that's up to them. The Principal Herald reviewing such a device should, however, inform the submitter of the rule so that they are not acting in ignorance of it. This was submitted as a harpy's claw, but that is impossible to tell just from the claw, since a harpy is a mixture of hawk and woman.

Baldwin of Erebor. Azure, on a pile invected ermine a harp Or.

Bernice of Red Gate. Badge for Household of Red Gate. Vert, on a gonfannon ermine, fringed Or, a triplebarred gate, hinged to sinister, gules.

Note: While I do not like putting banners on banners, I cannot construe this as a form of augmentation. Any other such use must, however, avoid conflicts both with the whole blazon, and with the blazon of the device on the gonfannon.

Ferelith MacDonald. Vert, a horned seapegasus Or; a chief invected argent.

Note: This is by default a unicornate horn. If you ever want a pegasus with some other type of horn you must specify.

Julia of the Forest, known as The Childless. Per chevron azure, ermined Or, and argent, in base three fir trees one and two proper.

Note: When the intent is just to have small standard charges in the default colors the genus and species need not be specified, as in this case.

Keridwen of Montrose. Per chevron counterermine and argent, in base an iris azure, slipped and leaved proper.

Lysander Keisalovitch. Badge for House of the Golden Ibex. Gules, an ibex statant Or, its sinister foreleg raised entangle in the slide of a sackbutt bendwise sinister, bell to base, argent.

Mirhaxa av Morktorn. Per pale Or and vert, a tower sable between in fess two mullets counterchanged.

Philip of Richmond. Gules, a chevron argent, overall a falcon volant sable, within a bordure argent.

Note: A bordure is on the field, although all charges are within it. I have therefor changed the bordure to argent from sable, as allowed on the sheet.

Robert de Spencer. Gules, a bend azure billety and fimbriated and forming part of a fret, in chief a crescent Or.

Samuel Zetetic the Skeptic. Gyronny azure and sable, in pale a balance biased to dexter with a weight in the sinister pan and two arrows in fess conjoined at the points, argent.

Stoth, Stomper of the Gilded Moth. Or, two square flags in saltire azure and vert, surmounted by another palewise gules, all staved proper.

Kingdom of Caid

Collegium Caidis. Argent, on a bend azure between a pomegranate slipped and leaved Or, seeded and fimbriated gules, and an Arabian lamb flammant Or, fimbriated gules, three crescents palewise argent.

Dreiburgen, Barony of. Badge for Order of the Towers of Dreiburgen (OTD). Per chevron throughout argent and azure, a tower argent.

Note: The tower is wholly on the azure.

Ionnes Leckie. Argent, a crane rising sable within a bordure indented purpure.

Lysette de la Sonsierré. Per bend sinister argent and azure, in dexter chief a skylark (Alonda orvensis) close perched upon a wheat stem fesswise arched proper, issuing from the line of division and sinister four piles throughout conjoined in point Or.

MairiKathleen nic Lauren. Per bend azure and argent, in bend enhanced a mullet of four points Or and a nightblooming jasmine flower (Jasminum officinale), both palewise, and in base a nightingale close (Luscinia megarhynclose) perched upon a flowering cherry branch (Prunus sargentii) fesswise, all proper.

Note: The field is blazoned completely first, then come the charges.

Neptha of Thebes. Or, a falcon displayed voided sable, grasping in sinister talon three carnations gules, stemmed sable; a chief urdy gules.

Note: This is a correction to the ordinary.

Owain ap Caradawc. Argent, a feathered wyvern countererect gules.

Note: He cannot be of Caer Pedryvan (Revolving Castle) as that is a fortress of Annwn, a supernatural realm not inhabited by mortals.

Sofya Volkovna of Novgorod. Per pale counterermine and ermine, in pale a wolf's head erased Or, maintaining in its taws a torch bendwise proper, between two bezants.

Terellys of Darkmoor. Sable, a bendlet argent between in cross a decrescent Or and three compass stars argent, overall a roundel quarterly azure and Or.

Thelin von Kallenbach. Vert, a domestic cat salient and in canton a snowflake argent.

Kingdom of the West

Ahmed ibn Tr'bai. Badge. Quarterly sable and Or, a Lebanon cedar vert.

Andrew the Black. Per chevron debased argent and Or, a pellet within a bordure gules.

Catalin di Napoli. Per pale sable and gules, a roundel Or, overall a pile throughout azure, fimbriated and in chief three decrescents Or.

Daffyd ap Morran. Badge for House Brithael. Quarterly gules and Or, a sinister gauntlet grasping a rose slipped and leaved argent.

Note: The rose should have barbs.

Domenic D'Aquila. Per pale Or and argent, two tygers rampant addorsed incensed, tails intertwined, sable.

Janeltis Karaine, Stargazer. Azure, a beardless winged unicorn countersalient, wings elevated and addorsed, argent between in chief three mullets of eight points and in base two of the same in bend sinister Or.

Note: This is a reblazon.

Kelwyn Darkstar. Tierced per pall argent, sable and gules, in chief a garden rosebud fesswise stalked and leaved sable.

Manon de Sacrecoeur. Vert, on a pair of flaunches enhanced argent two crosses moline sable, in base a wolf's head erased argent.

Stefan de Lorraine. Badge for Herman of Asher. Quarterly ermine and azure, a cross counterchanged, quarterpierced of the field.

REJECTED SUBMISSIONS BY KINGDOM

Kingdom of Atenveldt

Nehemiah ben Urijah. Azure, a ram's horn argent surmounted by a baskethilted broadsword inverted proper, all within a Mogen David argent.

This is in conflict with David of the Black Rose: Argent, within a Star of David of triple lines interlaced azure a rose slipped and leaved sable within a nimbus Or, fimbriated sable. His counterchange is only one point away from Nehemiah, namely the substitution of the secondary charges. The difference a Star of David and a triplelined Star of David is minor.

Robin of Rhovanion. Sable, on a bend sinister between a plate charged with a dragon countersegreant sable and a dragon's eye rune inverted argent, a scarpe raguly gules.

Runes, like letters, numbers, hieroglyphs, and Chinese characters may not be used as charges in devices. Runes are acceptable for badges.

Kingdom of Caid

Harsha Aditya the Infidel. Sable, two batons fleury in saltire Or between four bezants.

This conflicts with Reibwitx: Sable, two staves flory in saltire Or. (Rietstaap). Adding a group of identical charges is only one point of difference.

Roger de Bremhole. Per pale sable and gules, a demilion argent issuant from a horse argent and sable, grasping in its dexter forepaw a sprig of bramble proper.

What is the genus and species of bramble? You cannot see it against the sable. I suggest you make it Or, or else fimbriate it.

Kingdom of the West

Andre Lassard. The blazon gives it as a bee barry of eight sable and Or, winged Or.

I see it as the lower half of a bee with two wings. Resubmit a drawing of a complete be if that is what is desired.

Damion of Evanstar. Sable, a bend, overall on a mullet of four points argent another sable voided argent.

This conflicts with the arms of Duke Siegfried von Höflichskeit: Sable, on a bend argent a mullet of four points elongated to base gyronny sable and Or. You cannot be of evenstar as you can no longer be of a planet or star. In the case of evenstar it can be used as a descriptive, so it would be acceptable to use Damion Evenstar.

Davous Windrider of Clear Mountain. Azure, on a pair of wings conjoined at the shoulders a bezant charged with a pall sable, in base an arrow inverted Or.

The bezant on the wings is metal on metal. The pall on the bezant looks like a form of augmentation. It is suggestive of the augmentation given to Michael the Black. I suggest you remove the pall and pierce the bezant, using that to represent the perfect shot. The bezant should be fimbriated sable.

Tiriel Benn Loring. Azure, on a lotus flower argent a mullet of six points purpure charged with a mullet of five points argent, in chief above a fillet arched seven mullets of seven points Or.

In all there are eleven charges crammed onto this device. This is too complicated. I suggest removing the mullets on the lotus flower and reducing the number of mullets in chief to three or four. The lotus flower is not drawn the way a lotus flower really looks. Please resubmit a drawing showing a properly drawn lotus flower, as well as a simpler device.

END OF REJECTIONS

LAST MINUTE ACCEPTANCES

Kingdom of Caid

Catriona NicChlurain. Badge for House Opal Cross. Gules, a domestic cat rampant guardant Or, grasping in its forepaw a cross formed of six whitebased opals proper.

Note: Opals come in all colors, and so the color must be specified.

Kingdom of Ansteorra

Bryn Gwlad, Barony of. Argent, on a bend sinister between two compass stars of ten points each environed of a laurel wreath sable a halberd Or.

Bryn Gwlad, Barony of. Badge for the Order of the Halberd. Sable, issuant from dexter base a demihalberd bendwise sinister Or.

Note: This is a demihalberd because only the head and the upper part of the length is shown. A halberd issuing from the edge would show more shaft.

Melusine Whitcroft the Petite. Per saltire sable and azure, a hare (Lepus townsendii) couchant, ears extended to sinister, Or.

Note: Her appeal has been granted. She found a historical use of Melusina in 1667. Inasmuch as she submitted three years ago, I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt that it might have been used earlier and grant her the use of the name. This means Helena Melusine in the West can appeal her rejection also. Notice that there is both a surname and a modifier to difference the name from the original Melusine.

Kingdom of the West

Tiriel Benn Loring. Badge. Argent, a mullet of seven points purpure.
