LETTER OF ACCEPTANCES AND RETURNS

July 21, 1980 AS XV

ACCEPTANCES BY KINGDOM

KINGDOM OF ANSTEORRA

Duncan Carruthers. Blazon change. Or, seven ewes tergiant displayed, three, three and one, vert.

NOTE: I have other sources that indicate displayed can be used for creatures other than birds. Parker's Glossary of Terms Used in heraldry gives on page 277 an example of three frogs displayed, and on page 578 a tortoise displayed. Since the references disagree and we have used displayed in the past in the SCA, I have decided to continue the use of the term for all animals. By default an animal displayed is affrontee with all limbs extended radially outwards, with the head turned to dexter. If you want its head looking outwards it is gardant. If you want its head facing sinister it is regardant. If its back is to the viewer it is tergiant. The main axis of the body is by default palewise.

KINGDOM OF ATENVELDT

Aldanar Halrim. Quarterly vert and sable, a saltire between two crescents in pale argent.

Aleta of Helsgard. Badge. Argent, a horse salient sable upon a base embattled gules.

Arn Hold, Shire of. Name only.

Astrig Ragnarsdottir av Arvika. Sable, a compass star of eight passion nails, points outwards, alternately argent and Or, within two bendlets argent cotised or and two scarpes argent, cotised Or, all fretted in mascle throughout.

NOTE: Objects placed as if upon a bordure may be described as in bordure. Here the fretted bendlets, scarpes and cotises are all at the edge of the shield, and as the device is drawn on a lozenge they all lie as on a bordure. However, were this to be drawn on a heater, or on a square for a banner, this would no longer be the case. Hence I have described the charges as fretted in mascle throughout, ie the ends are all the way to the edge of the field.

Bjorn-njótr Olfassá. Per chevron gules and azure, two reindeer respectant at gaze proper and a blasted birch tree couped argent. (Rangifer tarandus)

NOTE: Three objects are by default two in chief and one in base.

Citadel of the Southern Pass, Shire of the. Azure, masoned argent, a goblet within a laurel wreath and a chief embattled Or.

Rosemary the Starseeker. Azure, two pegasi rampant addorsed, wings elevated, addorsed and crossed in saltire, within twelve mullets in bordure argent.

NOTE: Here the twelve mullets lie at the edge as if on a bordure.

Sara Celeste. Or, a sword inverted gules surmounted by a bar enarched azure charged with two mullets argent, in base two Oriental poppies, their stems entwined about the sword's point, gules, seeded sable, slipped and singly leaved vert.

Tir Ysgithyr, Barony of. Badge for use as ensign. Per fess azure and Or, in canton a bezant charged with a boar's head erased close reversed sable.

Ari ben Eleazer. Tierced per pall argent, purpure and Or, on an open parchement scroll fesswise proper a brazier sable, enflamed proper, in chief two swords in saltire sable.

Arianwen of Urquart. Vert, a horned pegasus salient argent armed and unguled purpure.

NOTE: The creature has no beard and a horse's tail, instead of the unicorn's fancy heraldic tail. If you want to call something a unicorn, it has to have a beard, cloven hooves, and the heraldic unicorn's tail.

Artemis Raphaela. Pean, on a bezant an owl close guardant upon a stump proper, issuant bendwise to dexter from the stump a rose sable, seeded, slipped and leaved proper. (Augolius acadicus)

Astrach yo Zhar-Ptitsa. Azure, a sword fess-wise surmounted by a harp argent.

NOTE: I couldn't make out the second word either on the forms or on the letter of intent. Is "yo" correct?

Dominique Le Montagnard. Or, a cat counter-rampant grasping in its three upper claws a python palewise gules.

Elenydd Aliyn of Ellidyr. Sable, a Bengal tiger with tiger striped dragon's wings passant Or, striped sable, in canton a sun or charged with an annulet sable.

Fernando Salazar y Perez. Sable, estoilly of seven points, a bordure embattled argent.

NOTE: Appeal granted.

Garth Fairchild. Azure, a bend sinister argent, overall a greyhound's head erased, vulned at the throat, proper.

Gavin Kilkenny of Kilcarren. Change of name from Grinmir Bogmodr and device change. Sable, a lion rampant affrontée Or, maintaining in dexter forepaw a sword bendwise sinister enflamed and in sinister forepaw another inverted proper.

NOTE: Unless I receive specific instructions to make old devices into badges, an old device is stricken from the ordinary when it is replaced with a new device.

Geoffrey of Stoughton. Sable, on a bend azure fimbriated a cygnet passant Or.

NOTE: A cygnet is a baby swan.

Giancarlo Amati di Fogliano. Fussily argent and azure, on a pale Or a rebec gules.

Guy de Falchion. Azure, three falchions Or, on a chief argent three cross crosslets gules.

NOTE: I call it a roach fish to difference it from the bug of the same name.

Gwendolyn of Middlemarch. Counter-vair, a cross patonce Or, overall on a bend gules three hearts palewise Or.

Gyrth Oldcastle of Ravenspur. Badge. Azure, a tower Or within an annulet argent.

NOTE: The number of crennelations on a tower is a matter for the artist, not the blazon.

Hilary of Keer. Argent, a popinjay (Ara araravna) rising proper, and on a chief gules a unicorn counter-dormant Or.

NOTE: A bird rising has its wings displayed by default.

Ian Cornelius Rubicundus. Bende per bend sinister wavy counterchanged gules and Or, in bend a hunting horn inverted and a hunting horn reversed sable.

Ingrid von Baumgarten. Argent, a bend sable between a rose gules, slipped and leaved vert, and a sycamore tree eradicated proper. (Acer pseudoplatanus)

NOTE: Widen the bend, as its almost a bendlet.

Janina Krakowska. Sable, in fess a bluejay counter-close (Cyanocitta cristate) and a mullet of six points elongated to base, all within a bordure argent.

NOTE: Widen the bordure, it's too narrow.

Janina Krakowska. Badge. Sable, in fess the Jara rune and a mullet of six points elongated to base, all within a bordure argent.

Jehan de la Marche. Badge for House de la Marche. Gules, a mace argent.

NOTE: Now that's how simple a badge should be.

Kobayashi Yutaka. Azure, a hurst of two trees couped proper within eight bezants in annulo.

Lucasta della Canzona Transalpina. Sable, three chevronels braced and in chief a mascle, all within a bordure argent.

Lyralyn du Lac Noir. Argent, a beard-less unicorn's head couped sable maintaining a thistle proper, on a chief azure three mullets argent.

Maeldune von Drachenzahne. Sable, a wyvern gules, winged, bellied and fimbriated Or, climbing a tower argent, masoned sable, in canton a dagger inverted Or.

Maria Catarina da Taranto. Argent, on fess between a chief indented and a base inverted vert a Maltese spaniel passant guardant between two estoiles argent.

NOTE: The Maltese Toy Spaniel is out of period, but the Maltese spaniel is in period. The only difference is the size.

Marian of Edwinstone. Badge for the Carolingia Company of Bowmen. Azure, a pall wavy between three pairs of arrows inverted in saltire Or.

Maire-Simone de Darjavel 'la Fildena. Badge. A compass star of sixteen points argent voided vert.

Michael of Hawkwood. Azure, a bend ermine between a harp and in fess a quill palewise and an inkwell Or.

Moira Maureen ua Seamus of the Green Hills. Device change. Per chevron azure and vert, a fusil argent.

Morgen Duvall. Per chevron ermine and purpure, in base a rebec surmounted by a bow inverted bendwise sinister argent, and on a chief dovetailed purpure a demi-sun Or.

NOTE: Musical instruments with strings like a rebec are affrontée palewise by default. Harps are sideways. If it has strings, the strings are shown, and so the instrument is a very narrow pile inverted between other charges. If it's wide enough to put a charge on properly, it's generally per chevron.

Raesean Allmhaidh ni Ruairidh. Pean, a pile bendwise wavy and in sinister chief a wolf salient gules.

NOTE: I have deleted the torque in canton on the pile because it looks too much like a laurel wreath from a distance. If Raesean is willing to have a torque inverted then it would be acceptable to add back in. A single charge is bendwise, while several charges are in bend.

Rhydderich Hael, Barony of the. Per pale vert and sable, a dragon segreant Or, and in dexter base a bezant charged with a laurel wreath proper.

NOTE: Appeal accepted, once the translation was supplied.

Rhys ap Maelgwyn, Dinistr gan Herodau.Azure, a dragon involved widdershins, head in base, vorant of its tail and impaled of a sword inverted argent, hilted Or, quillioned sable, all within a bordure embattled argent.

NOTE: The bordure should be three times as wise. It looks like a bordurelet to me. The words "y Trafaeliwr gan Llanerchymedd" and "of Carolingia" have been omitted from the name because of the limitation on name length. The first part was omitted from the name on the emblazon sheet, and the of Carolingia was not on the information sheet, so the name registered is what is in common between the two sheets and fits the limitation of length of name.

Roderic of Basing. Argent, upon an unbarbed rose azure another argent, seeded Or.

Rowan de Belchant. Quarterly vert and sable, in bend two thrushes counter-close singing Or.

NOTE: This is a special case exception to the normal rule against quartering of arms. When two of the quarters are a single tincture field and the other two are identical with only one charge then the device is acceptable so long as the two quarters that are charged do not duplicate a known device or arms. The quarters of a single tincture clearly do not duplicate any family's device, as the single tincture fields are allocated to either saints or to extinct families. This device does not look like an attempt to quarter arms, but rather a balanced device. It would also pass if each of the four quarters had an identical bird, again assuming the quarters did not duplicate any known device or arms. This would not work if the birds were replaced by ordinaries that cut off at the edges of the quartered division as then it would look like quartering, and would thus be forbidden. This sort of device will be considered on a case by case basis.

Samuel ben-Isaac of Sarkel Badge for House Silverwing. Per chevron invected concave throughout argent and azure, in base a chevronel Or.

Serena Lucia of the Peacemakers. Gyronny vert and Or, a snowy owl's head erased affrontée proper. (Nyctea scandiaca)

Storvik, Barony of. Badge. A Drakkar under sail proper, bearing a sail argent charged with three pallets gules.

Sylvana Dagfinsdottir. Vert, on a head sinister vert fimbriated Or three dogwood blossoms proper. (Cornus florida)

Taran of Windy Hill. Azure, a bendlet between a boreas and a panther counter-rampant gardant Or, incensed gules.

NOTE: This is the heraldic panther, as the natural must be so specified.

Thomas of Linlithgow. Badge. A rose azure, barbed vert, charged with a lynx head cabossed argent.

Thomas-Edmund de Warrick. Gyronny argent and azure, on a mullet of eight points gules a wyvern passant Or.

Tnek the Ainissestor. Badge for House of Tnek and Tannis. Per bend sinister indented gules and azure, a sun Or and a gryphon counter-segreant argent.

NOTE: By default the sun is in canton and the gryphon is in sinister base. A badge cannot be registered to two people at once. The College can only register a badge to a single individual. Since Tnek was listed first I registered this to Tnek.

William of St. Ives. Sable, a sea-griffin stooping, tail pendant, argent.

KINGDOM OF MERIDIES

Chér de Bellevue. Change of spelling from Chére.

NOTE: Appeal accepted. It is allowed, though discourage, for a lady to use a man's given name, and visa versa. The applicant must note on the information sheet the fact that they know that the name is of the opposite gender and that they do desire it that way. Otherwise it will be corrected to the proper gender.

KINGDOM OF THE MIDDLE

Alize Pfau von Herscheld. Or, a peacock in its pride sable, in chief a sun gules.

Anne MacDee. Argent, a sprig of mistletoe palewise inverted proper, fructed gules, between in fess two acorns proper.

NOTE: McDee is out of period. MacDee is the proper form. Acorns are ripe (ie brown) by default. If you want a green acorn you have to so specify.

Chritophre Cynwyd. Or, a date palm leaf sable (Phoenix dactylifera).

Colin Korino. Gyronny of three arrondy azure, gules and sable, three bezants, one in chief, one in base, and one in dexter base.

Cristant Aelred Aelfwine. Per bend azure and gules, a bendlet between a griffin segreant Or and a cross moline sable, fimbriated Or.

Daemon de Folo. Device change. Sable, a pall between three death's heads, each wearing a rounded helm with coif, all argent.

Evan Aethalwald. Azure, a sword inverted between two others in chevron, all conjoined at the tips, each pommeled of an estoille of eight points elongated to chief, and in chief an estoille of eight points argent.

Flaming Gryphon, Barony of the. Ermine, in bend sinister a gryphon stooping Or, enflamed proper, and a laurel wreath palewise vert.

Gillian du Bois des Fleurs. Argent, a Lombardy Poplar tree eradicated (populus nigra, var-Italica) proper between two Gillflowers (Dianthus carylophyllus) gules, slipped and leaved proper.

Ina Caspe de La Pointe. Per fess wavy azure and argent, a snake involved, head to sinister, counterchanged.

Johannes Peregrinus. Argent, five lozenges in chevron sable between four bar cotices gules.

NOTE. It is now legal to use cotices as independent charges. you specify if they are bar cotices or bend cotices or chevron cotices.

Margaret of Shaftesbury. Per pale nebuly sable and azure, in fess enhanced a cross crosslet and a rose within nine plates in annulo argent.

NOTE: Only the rose is within the plates. If both the cross and rose were within the plates I would have said all within.

Robert of Spelsbury. Azure, on a bend argent an ivy vine throughout vert, in sinister chief a squirrel counter-sejant erect argent.

Rosamore of Redthorn. Or, a rose gules, barbed vert, seeded of a mullet Or, within four rose stems conjoined in mascle vert, thorned gules, all within a bordure engrailed gules.

Talymar gan y Llwyn. Sable, a stag counter-trippant argent, between its antlers a bezant, in sinister base an increscent argent.

Thomas de Cassel. Per bend vert and azure, on a bend argent between a garb of wheat Or and an anchor argent two lions passant sable.

NOTE: This would make a good example for a heraldry class on the order of blazoning.

Würm Wald, Barony of. Argent, a wyvern gules spiraling down a treed eradicated and on a chief urdy sable a laurel wreath argent.

KINGDOM OF THE WEST

Akbar Khyam. Pean, on a ball of flames Or a wolf's head erased sable.

NOTE: A ball of flames differs from a sun in that it is irregular.

Anarra Perrin of Aelinbar. Sable, a bend Or, overall a dragon segreant gules, grasping in its dexter forefoot a pair of wings conjoined in lure sable.

NOTE: The wings lie on the bend. A charge overall upon both metal and color need not conform to the rule of tincture.

Anarra Perrin of Aelinbar. Badge for House Aelinabar. Argent, gouté d'larmes, issuant from a base engrailed azure a demi-tower sable.

Arias the Innkeeper's Daughter. Azure, a youth dancing to sinister playing a straight trumpet upraised Or, in sinister chief a sun eclipsed proper.

Branwyn of Caer Marthen. Azure, a swan volant between in pale two flutes fesswise argent.

Christina Murus Lepida. Azure, three rhinoceroses counter-statant argent, each charged with a fleur-de-lis gules.

Elaine d'Hibou. Per bend vert and Or, a screech owl counter-close proper. (Otus asio)

Faugn Gwyndarr. Per bend sinister Or and sable, a griffin segreant and a mullet counterchanged.

Garbrielle de l'Ambrosia. Vert, a tiger's head erased close reversed proper, in sinister canton a lozenge concave argent. (Pantera tigres altaica)

Gaius Marcellus Librus Auklandus. Sable, on a cross cotised Or, a sun gules.

NOTE: Actually, he's back in the East now.

Geoffrey of Griffinhold. Vert, two griffin's heads erased and a stag's head caboshed within a bordure embattled Or.

Gladio di Atori. Sable, a boar's head couped reversed and in chief a mace fesswise Or.

Johanne af Wasastjärna. Azure, mullety argent, a domestic cat rampant Or.

Lorion Astar. Argent, an American flamingo statant gardant, dexter leg raised, between three palm trees couped proper. (Phoenicoterus ruber, Roystonea regia)

REJECTIONS BY KINGDOM

KINGDOM OF ANSTEORRA

NONE.

KINGDOM OF ATENVELDT

Aleta of Helsgard. Badges. Gules, a horse forcené argent upon a base embattled sable. Sable, mullety argent, a horse passant regardant argent upon a base embattled sable, fimbriated gules.

Both of these are color on color. If they are fimbriated argent they will work. These fail because at long last I am requiring badges to obey the Rule of Tincture. Badges need not have tinctures specified, but if they are specified they must obey the Rule of Tincture.

KINGDOM OF CAID

Su of the Silver Horn. Change of device. Azure, in fess a drinking horn bendwise argent and a flower of four heart-shaped petals Or, barbed vert, seeded argent.

This conflicts with Danika Ymar of Peren: Azure, two drinking horns embowed and erect in fess argent.

KINGDOM OF THE EAST

Akiley Haline du Remier. Gules, on a lozenge argent a hawk counter-volant proper maintaining a sinister glove sable.

I need the language, translation and/or other source for the name. The device is OK. Note that this is not an inescutcheon of pretence because there is no device behind it. The College of Arms does not consider a single tincture field to be a protected entity. Had there been any charge behind the lozenge this device would bounce. Send the name data and I'll register the device.

Arsharlá. Quarterly vert and Or, a jester's head and neck affronté proper, caped and collared quarterly Or and gules, between two cubit arms in chevron apaumé, fingers splayed, proper.

The device is OK, but you must add a second word to your name.

Atai Yoshina. Argent, a torteau between in fess two pellets and in chief another, all within an annulet sable.

The mon (device) is OK. Yoshina is a surname. Use Yoshio or other similar given name. (Irreverent footnote: He would have canting arms if he changed his family name to Atari.)

Berengar von Myrkheim. Gyronny sable and vert, a griffin segreant Or, taloned, winged, beaked, armed, and grasping in dexter fore-talon a sword bendwise sinister, in chief a mullet of eight points argent.

The surname conflicts with the Markheim household, who protest. Try something that sounds different.

Cadwan Galwiddoe. Gules, on a bend between two mullets argent, a ram's headed sheitholt sable, strings to base, stringed and pegged gules, fretted argent.

Musical instruments that are stringed are shown with the strings facing the viewer so the viewer can see what the instrument is. It is not possible from the drawing to recognize what the instrument is. Please turn it to show the strings.

Cariadoc of the Bow. Badge. A composite bow strung with a crescent moon, an arrow on the "string", sinister.

There is no picture sheet and the blazon is unclear. Send me the usual forms.

Chrissa Wyf of Devenshire. Vert, a vixen (vulpes vulpina) passant guardant proper, in chief a mullet argent, all within a bordure engrailed gules.

This in color on color. Bordures must obey the rule of tincture. And its Devonshire, not Devenshire.

Conradin of Thuringia. Per bend sable and azure, a mullet of eight points elongated to chief and base argent.

This conflicts with Brandon d'Arindel: Per bend azure and sable, a compass star of sixteen points elongated to base within a bordure argent. He was forced to add the bordure because of another conflict.

Edward Van Reisling. Or, a porcupine statant proper, in chief three mullets of six points vert.

This conflicts with Catherine Greybard of Gillenglen: Or, a hedgehog statant proper and a chief wavy sable. A hedgehog and a porcupine are almost identical in appearance. I need the genus and species for the porcupine.

Gart of the Erzi. Gules, a kraken dented sable, fimbriated argent.

The drawing looks like some sort of cave drawing of a monster's head. It is not a heraldic kraken. Send in documentation. By dented do you mean its teeth?

Gilead Ben-Seldon. Azure, a dragon segreant within a bordure rayonny Or.

The rayonny is not drawn correctly. Check a heraldry book. The inward bulge is the same pointed wavy shape as the outwards bulge, giving a symmetrical line. Seldon is a surname. You are not the son of the father's surname, but the son of the father's given name. So Ben-Seldon is incorrect. Gilead is a place, not a given name. The hyphen is incorrect. We do not use nicknames in the form of "Called so-and-so". The device is acceptable.

Jaelle of Armida. Gules in canton a tower argent, masoned sable, and in sinister base a bell Or.

This conflicts with the badge of Barbara-Catherine of Kenilsworth: Gules, in canton a tower argent, masoned sable, and in sinister base a hind trippant Or. From now on all SCA devices must differ from SCA badges by at least one and a half points of difference, and vise versa. One point of difference is no longer enough. SCA badges must differ from mundane arms and badges by one point of difference. This one point cannot be counterchanging. Counterchanging plus a half point of further difference will suffice.

Jayne Elfwraythe. Per chevron dovetailed or and azure, a winged beardless unicorn statant upon the line of division, wings addorsed, head lowered, and a mullet of six points pierced counterchanged.

The device is acceptable, but Elfwraythe is not. You cannot claim to be a non-mortal, and the wraythe of an elf is definitely non-mortal.

Ino Ogami No Bushi Boh Mosake' of House Elandris. Sable an open ke fan torn at the dexter chief corner and charged with a pair of interlocking open kabuki fans, pierced by an akuchi dagger bendwise sinister, edge to chief, trailing from the sinister side of the ke fan a rope knotted at the center with both ends looped behind the ke fan and then back over themselves, all argent.

First of all the kabuki fans are argent upon the ke fan which is also argent. Next comes the problem of describing how the kabuki fans are conjoined. Thirdly comes the problem with the ropes. The main problem other than the metal on metal is that it is far too complex, especially for a mon. The name is improper Japanes. What is the translation? Document the name and simplify the device. The ke fan alone would make a good mon, without the akuchi and the kabuki fans.

Istvan de Rhindle. Sable, a chevron enhanced gules, fimbriated Or.

This conflicts wth Bainer: Sable, a chevron Or. Its as if you added a chevronel gules onto his chevron Or. In the old days of heraldry all chevrons were enhanced. You need a little more difference.

Lilliane de L'Alyanne. Quarterly Or and azure, a firehorse proper, in sinister chief a mullet with ways coming off of three of them.

I do not understand the blazon. She will have to resubmit as I have no forms for her. Document the firehorse.

Minerva of the Bryer-Woods. Azure, a chevron argent between in chief two crescents argent and in base a Sea Otter feeding upon a scallop proper. (Enhyrdra Lutris) (Pecten grandis)

This conflicts with Cotton: Azure, a chevron between three crescents argent. Replacing the crescent with the otter is only one point. The scallop is too small to count.

Myrrdin of the Flames. Argent, a bonacon counter-passant reguardant incended at the rear gules, pierced by a spear bendwise inverted proper, on a bordure vert ten flaming blasted trees couped proper.

The bonacon was considered too offensive by a significant fraction of the College and is therefore not allowed for use in the SCA. The name is to close to Merlin (or Myrddin), the advisor to King Arthur, who was a master of fire.

Skye Nic Regin. Azure, four cross crosslets conjoined in saltire argent.

The device is acceptable. Skye is out of period as a given name. If you can prove its use in your period you can have it. You can add a given name in front of the current name, turning Skye into a surname, which it was, besides being a place.

Stephen de Raymond. Sable, a sun eclipsed argent.

This conflicts wtih Kourost Bernard of the East Woods: Sable, a sun eclipsed Or.

Tear-Sea's Shore, Canton of. Azure, a dexter flaunch Or, a sinister flaunch argent, in chief an ocean wave proper overall a laurel wreath proper.

You cannot have an ocean wave proper, as there is no set color for ocean water. You can have it as argent. It is now acceptable to have flaunches of different colors.

Umbar Thundercaller. Argent, a pair of flaunches cotised and in chief a kindjal dagger inverted sable surmounted by a madu shield gules.

The device is OK. I need documentation on the use of Umbar as a given name.

KINGDOM OF THE MIDDLE

Aidan Glym Clywd. Per pale vert and Or, issuant from base three flames rayonny-wise and in chief a snowflake counterchanged, in base a gout of the field.

This is as close as I can come. Per fess rayonny is a uniform symmetrical division. Your emblazon should show the dexter and sinister tips of the lozenge shaped escutcheon to be of the next piece, instead of the three flames you show. If you added those tips then it would be Per fess rayonny and per pale counterchanged vert and Or, in chief a snowflake and in base a gout counterchanged. I do not want to have to use a word like rayonny-wise. Please re-draw correctly. The number of rayonny points is up to the artist. Large rayonny "flames" are quite proper.

Alfhild of Epsilon

Appeal denied. You cannot be of a letter, and you cannot say that that is an estate because it would not be obvious to anyone else that that is the case. However, what you can do is to make it clear in your name. I will accept Alfhild of Epsilon Island, but not Alfhild of Epsilon.

Arbas NaConnachta. Sable, a pall between in base caltrops Or.

This conflicts with Ardral Argo ver Kaeyse: Sable, a pall argent surmounting another inverted Or.

Ariel bat Amáh. Azure, a vine bendwise sinister wavy throughout proper, overall two demi-unicorns passant reguardant addorsed conjoined argent, crined sable.

This conflicts with Fiona O'Mull: Azure, two demi-unicorns rampant addorsed conjoined at the shouldres, couped at the loins, between in pale three trefoils one and two argent. Try changing the color of the field.

Bjorndal, Canton of. Azure, the constellation ursa major figured in seven estoilles of six points, in chief an estoille of six points argent within an oak wreath proper, all within a bordure indented argent.

The bordure is drawn incorrectly, as the indents should be uniform. You cannot have a bordure dancetty. A branch has to have a laurel wreath not an oak wreath and you cannot put green on blue. You cannot have a constellation as a charge. Why not use a bear? Shouldn't that be Bjørndal?

Briton Sceptdragon. Sable, a dragon sejant erect affrontée, head to sinister, wings displayed, tail pendant wavy to base Or, maintaining in the lower claws a slain unicorn fesswise reversed argent, armed and crined Or.

Briton is not a given name. You cannot be descended from a dragon, so you cannot be of a dragon scept. The whole thing is too reminiscent of Arthur Pendragon and his dragon shield as shown in the comic strip Prince Valiant, although pendragon has nothing to do with dragons, as it just means chief. Lastly, and most important, this was found offensive by a significant fraction of the College, and so may not be registered. Start over.

Brodr Gereson. Gyronny Or and sable a tower gules.

This conflicts with Kinsey (Papworth p. 364) who has Argent, a tower gules. I am sure that on the continent somewhere there is probably also Or, a tower gules, but at least its not in Papworth. In any event you only get one point of difference for the field, and you need one and a half.

Matthias Stryaebjorn. Paly wavy vert and argent, an owl displayed Or.

This conflicts with Fevronia Murometsa: Azure, on the breast of an owl displayed Or a Russian Orthodox cross gules. The fields are different but the addition of the cross is not a full point.

Ohthere Herjolfson. Per chevron throughout Or and azure, in saltire a smith's hammer proper surmounted by a smith's tongs and in base a forge pot sable, enflamed gules.

This has three cases of color on color. Is Othere really a proper Norse name?

Olav Sigurdsson. Sable, on a lozenge Or a gryphon counter-passant, tail nowed, gules, grasping in its raised paw a fleur-de-lis sable.

This conflicts with Kondrad von Drachenruh: Sable, on a lozenge Or a dragon couchant sable. Substitution of one charge for another is only one point. The fluer-de-lis is a minor point.

Tagge Narwhalson.

Appeal rejected. You cannot be the son of a narwhal. If your father was Hrolf Narwhal, you would be Tagge Hrolfsson, not Hrolf Narwhalsson. He would not allow Hrolf Narwhal either, so we will not allow what might be a medieval slang form, such as Narwhalsson. I will accept Tagge of the Narwhals, which would also cant upon the device, but not Tagge Narwhalson. If I allowed Narwhalson as an epithet how could I disallow Thorsson is one who supposedly was found as an orphan in a storm, and therefore clearly left there by Thor?

Taira den Furraigi Thiar. Per fess dancetty azure and Or, in chief a European swallow (Hirundo mustica) counter-volant argent.

Dancetty has three points to chief. You have drawn only two and a half. Tair means three, so Taira is okay. Correct the drawing and you will have canting arms. The word den is German, not Celtic. The languages must agree so you must use "a" or "o", the Celtic forms, or else use a germanic surname. Furraigi Thiar does not seem to mean Western Sea in my sources. You will have to document them. Please send a new drawing.

Torin of Arcana. Appeal denied

You cannot be of Arcana, as that would be the same a being of a deck of cards, or else would imply magical powers. I will accept Torin of Arcania, as that would be a period style name. If I allowed your form of reasoning I could not reject any place name, as the person could then just say that was the name of the mythical estate they had just made up for their persona. Or they could have a sign on their doorstep with that name and say that was the name of their household.

Valmai Leannan Sidhe. Per fess enhanced, an oak leaf bendwise and a gemel counterchanged.

Your device is acceptable, but your name is not. There is no "v" in the Welsh language cannot be Welsh, Sidhe is another name for Shee, or fairy. We quote from Yeats, Irish Fairy and Folk Tales,

"The Leanhann Shee (fairy mistress) seeks the love of mortals. If they refuse she must be their slave; if they consent they are hers, and can only escape by finding another to take their place. The fairy lives on their life and they waste away. Death is no escape from her. She is the Gaelic muse, for she gives inspiration to those she persecutes. The Gaelic poets die young, for she is restless and will not let them remain long on earth--this malignant phantom." Since you cannot be an Irish fairy, you cannot call yourself Leannan Sidhe.

KINGDOM OF THE WEST

Janeltis Karaine, Stargazer.

You cannot be Janeltis, Karaine, Starfarere as that does come too close to implying non-mortal abilities. I can, if you wish, delete the word Stargazer, but I understand your desire for the initials JKS. If I could bend the rules for anyone I would for you, but I cannot. I do, however, suggest that you consider the name Janeltis Karine Starfollower, which sounds similar, means essentially what you want your name to mean, and is acceptable to the College, and has the initials JKS.
