Minowara Kiritsubo. Name only.

Note: The Shō-gun of Japan was a military strongman appointed by the Emperor with an imperial warrant. The Tokugawa Shō-gunate was a special case where the warrant and the title of Sho-gun became hereditary. Only the Tokugawa shōguns could be considered kings. The clan name of Tokugawa, therefore, qualifies as a royal house name and may not be used. While the Minamotos and Fujiwaras do not really qualify as royal houses, they are close enough to it that, as a special case, they are also restricted. The surname of Minowara used in the novel Shō-gun by James Clavell is a step removed from reality and does not have the reference in the real world given to the three shō-gunate families. Therefore it is not restricted. "Kiri" is a common name in Japan and "tsubo" is a suffix meaning beautiful. Kiritsubo is therefore a proper Japanese name. It does not conflict with Kiritsubo-Toshiko-san, Toranaga's chief consort in the novel, because she was not a Minowara. Clan lords did not take consorts from their own clan.

Chepe l'Orageux. Per saltire gules and sable, two lightning flashes throughout in saltire, barbed and flighted Or.

Note: "l'Orageux" = "the stormy one". "des Orages" = "of the storms". "L'Oragere" is meaningless. I have therefore chosen "l'Orageux". If you prefer "des Orages", you can have it.

REJECTIONS BY KINGDOM

KINGDOM OF CAID

Michel d'Artois. Per saltire argent and vert, overall an open book argent bound sable charged upon the dexter page with a rose gules barbed vert and upon the sinister page with a triple mount vert, and on a chief sable a sword fesswise reversed Or.

Darach, Shire of. Azure, a pall argent between a laurel wreath and two Black Oaks (Quercus rebutina) proper.

Note: You cannot put a laurel wreath proper on azure. Document your scientific name for the oak trees. We can't find it.

Note: You cannot have a caduceus or aescupalius wand unless you are a mundane doctor.

Guy de Coldrake. Sable, an eagle winged Wyvern displayed, head to sinister, argent, charged upon the breast with a decrescent sable and in base two decrescents argent.

Note: This is not a wyvern. It is no known heraldic monster. Redraw as a recognizable wyvern or document this usage.

Joyelyn Doughlass of Fairfax. Purpure, a fillet cross entrailed Or between in bend a thistle proper and a unicorn's head couped and in bend sinister two fountains.

Note: What is drawn is a cross entrailed, except that a cross entrailed is only shown as an outline, being always voided. The SCA thistle proper is purpure on the top, which vanishes on a purpure field.

KINGDOM OF THE EAST

Barak Elandris Mago. Per bend sinister vert and sable, on a bend sinister counterchanged, fimbriated, a lightning flash throughout argent.

Note: Conflicts with the arms of Raoul the Urbane: Per bend sinister purpure and azure, a bend sinister counterchanged, upon the lines of division three German flutes bendwise sinister throughout argent.

Bertrand de Flammepoing. Sable, a sinister hand appaumé, fingers splayed, gules, enflamed proper, charged on the palm with a mullet of ten points argent.

Note: Too close to the Hand of Glory. This smacks so much of Satanism that it would be offensive to a large fraction of the populace. It is also color-on-color.

Dinas Moryn, City-State of. Badge for the Dinas Moryn Shield Wall. Per fess azure and vert, a fess embattled argent, masoned sable.

Note: The shield wall conflicts with the arms of Orson die Gross Mauer: Counter-ermine, a fess embattled argent, masoned sable.

Fevronia Murometsa. Badge for House Tarkan. Gules, a cockroach tergiant erect (L. periplanta americana) sable, fimbriated argent.

Note: The combination of the slur on the Mongol title and the use of a basically offensive insect is too offensive.

Harbert de Guilbert. Badge. Quarterly, sable and gules, a lyre Or.

Note: The badge conflicts with the device of Richard the Strange: Per chevron vert and purpure, a lyre Or.

Sigora Aethela of Wessex. Vert, a mullet of eight points within six others in orle argent.

Note: Too close to the badge of Finnvarde Tashe: Azure, a mullet of six points within six mullets of six points in orle Or.

Vorkul Bedwyr Xenoforst. Or, a stag's head couped close gules and in base three Scottish thistles slipped and leaved proper, within a bordure sable.

Note: The device is OK. Provide the meanings of Vorkul and Xenoforst. Are they made up?

Note: Conflicts with Kourost Bernard of the East Woods: Sable, a sun eclipsed Or.

Binnorie of Perth. Argent, a chaplet of violets proper (Viola odorata) around an arrow inverted sable.

Note: Binnorie is a place and is used as a Scottish burden in songs, like "down a down" or "hey nonnie nonnie". Please document its translation and its use as a given name.

Calontir, Region of. Badge for Huscarls of Calontir. Per chevron embattled sable and argent, in chief two battle axes in saltire argent and in base a Cross of Calatrava gules.

Note: A Cross of Calatrava gules is the symbol of the Spanish Order of Calatrava, an order of knighthood. A Cross of Calatrava vert is the symbol of the Order of Alcantara, another Spanish order of knighthood.

Calontir, Region of. Badge for Fyrdmen of Calontir. Sable, on a pile embattled between two spears pilewise argent a Cross of Calatrava gules.

Note: See above note for Huscarls of Calontir.

Eleanor of Alnwick. Azure, a swan naiant proper (Cygnus olor) between two towers in pale both argent.

Note: Conflicts with Sheryl of Thespis: Azure, a swan naiant argent, crowned Or. (Countess Sheryl is now known as Amina Sherana Talavera. She really ought to submit that name change.)

Girolamo da Firenze. Gules, a fleur-de-lys Florencé beneath a tasseled trumpet both Or.

Note: This conflicts with the arms of the family of Albrecht: Gules, a fleur-de-lys Or. (Papworth, p. 847).

Michael the Wanderer. Azure, a compass star elongated to base overall a scorpion passant gules.

Note: What is the second word, d'Intenden, O'Glendow? Device conflicts with Paul of Sunriver: Azure, a compass star Or.

Note: Differences in lines of division are 1/2 point. Crispin Chrysippus von Dusar: Or, on a pale rayonny gules, a unicorn rampant Or. Note that it is impossible for a sinister arm to bend in that direction.

Three Rivers, Barony of. Per chevron inverted argent and vert, a pall wavy azure, fimbriated argent, in chief a laurel wreath vert.

Note: Conflicts with the Barony of Carolingia: Azure, a pall wavy, and in chief a laurel wreath Or. Too similar visually. You can have it if the Barony of Carolingia gives permission.

Spartacus de Belgique mac de'Ath. Argent, four Mandarin oranges proper (Citrus reticulata), above each a fusil sable, and in base a Seville orange proper (Citrus aurantium).

Note: The College will not register devices to cats or any other animals. Mandarin oranges are out of period. Those are roundels tenné, not oranges, because there is no texturing as found on an orange. Tenné is forbidden. The name should be Spartacus de Belgique de'Ath. Michel de Belgique can register a badge to himself for his cat Spartacus if he wants to.

Vlad der Rachener. Sable, a bat erect argent within a bordure Or.

Note: The bat as drawn is not in a standard heraldic position. This is too close to Dracula, really known as Vlad the Impaler. He could have been called the Avenger. Redraw and choose a different given name.

William of Bellwood. Sable, a chevron and in dexter chief a lion passant Or.

Note: This conflicts with the arms of the family of Bainer: Sable, a chevronel Or (Papworth, p. 377), and the arms of the family of Hyndstoke: Sable, a chevron and in chief two lions rampant Or (Papworth, p. 377).

End of rejections.
