ACCEPTANCES May 26, 1984 A.S. XIX

Kingdom of An Tir

Alexander Kinney. Chevronelly and per pale azure and argent, a cameleopardel trippant pean.
NOTE: Draw the cameleopardel more like a giraffe.

Asta Thorvaldsdottir. Gyronny of twelve sable and gules scaly argent, on a lozenge argent a dragon rampant sable.

Cassandra of Blaechowe. Per fess indented counterermine and argent, a female centaur rampant preparing to throw from her sinister hand a javelin bendwise gules.
NOTE: Blaecan is the infinitive "to bleach," not an adjective. Blaecanhowe is thus not a valid formation. I have used the closest correct formation, which is Blaechowe (inkblack hill). (Blaec means black ink.)

Ciara Sinikettu. Or, ermined vert, a fox courant azure.
NOTE: Classic heraldry.

Desirée de Brus. Per bend argent and Or, a bend sable between a Scotch broom plant stalked and leaved proper and a unicorn's horn bendwise erased azure. (Planta genista)
NOTE: Draw the horn parallel to the bend.

Elayne Greybeard the Eclectic. Vert, an enfield rampant guardant to sinister Or.
NOTE: Classic heraldry.

Elspeth Alyne of Alnwick. Sable, a winged collie statant, upon a bordure argent six violet blossoms purpure, seeded Or.
NOTE: The Shetland sheepdog breed came into being in the 19th century, so I have changed it to a collie, which existed in period and is similar.

*Elspeth of the Blue Stone Keep. Azure, ermined, a unicorn rampant and on a chief embattled argent a vine fesswise throughout sable charged with two roses azure.
NOTE: Draw the chief bigger.

Giles of Gamph. Per chevron azure and Or, an oak tree eradicated between two bearded axes and a frame saw fesswise, all counterchanged.

NOTE: Draw the legs bent under the body of the bullfrog in a proper sejant position.

Margot MacLeod de Morgan. Counterermine, a griffin segreant coward, wings displayed, Or; a chief argent.
NOTE: The tail should go between the legs to be properly coward. This is otherwise very nice heraldry.

*Ruairidh MacLeoid. (name change; formerly Rurik the Reluctant)

*Seamus MacCuraidh. Ermine, a lion rampant guardant maintaining a sword sable within a bordure counterermine.
NOTE: The old arms become a badge. Furs can be placed on other furs so long as the result is not excessive complexity and there is sufficient contrast.

*Seamus MacCuraidh. (badge). Three lion's forelegs embowed conjoined in triskelion sable, each maintaining a sword proper.

Siobhann ni Chathain MacMhuiraich. Per pale azure and argent, three chevronels counterchanged; overall a rose gules, seeded Or, slipped and leaved vert.
NOTE: Draw the chevronels wider. The word ni aspirates the initial consonant of the following word, so Cathan becomes Chathain.

Siobhann ni Chathain MacMhuiraich. (badge). Per pale sable and argent, a phoenix counterchanged rising from flames emergent from base proper and in chief a crescent inverted counterchanged.

Terra Pomaria, Shire. (name approval only)
NOTE: Pomaria is the correct Latin form.

NOTE: Good Meryk Haraldson gives permission.

Catriona Mairi Ann nic Ghriogar. (badge). Per chevron azure and argent, two towers Or and a dragon dormant vert.
NOTE: Draw the legs in a correct dormant position.

Daffyd ap Caradoc. Sable, a wingless, legless hydra, tail nowed, Or.
NOTE: Hydras have seven heads by default.

Elaine d'Auvergne. Per chevron azure, semédelys, and argent, in base a dragon passant coward gules.

Kingdom of Caid

Aelfraed Raedwald of Devennport. Or, a phoenix azure, rising from flames, within a bordure rayonny gules.
NOTE: Good heraldry. Aelfrede and Raedwald use different versions of red that were used in different centuries and thus would not have been in use at the same time. I have therefore changed Alfrede to Aelfraed.

Douglas Orion. (name approval only; see RETURNS for device)

Edmund Vernay. (name approval only; see RETURNS for device)

Kireen Aelfwynn. Azure, two batons in saltire between in pale two roundels argent, each charged with a cross humetty azure, and in fess two mullets of four points argent.

*Lasarian Eireannach Aemrythorne of Eildon Hall. (name change; formerly Lasarian of Twrynyswr)
NOTE: I have corrected the spelling of the second word.

*Rhyance Llew ap Llewellyn. (name change; formerly Rhyance ap Llewellyn)
NOTE: The definite article y appears to be dropped in a Welsh name when a noun is used as an epithet.

William of Holywell. Vert, on a mullet of six points Or a cross humetty gules, a bordure countercompony vert and Or.

Kingdom of Calontir

*Æthelred the Jute. (badge). Gules, a gore Or, goutté de sang, in sinister chief a warhammer bendwise sable, fimbriated argent.

Fulk Mallei of Luxemberg. Per pale sable and argent, an albatross displayed, head to sinister, between four millrinds counterchanged.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

Kristyan Elsabet von Gutberg. (name approval only)

Leric Speltigh. Per chevron sable and Or, in cross a mask of comedy argent, each distilling a goutte de sang, two acorns inverted Or, and a fireball sable, enflamed proper.
NOTE: The device is rather complex. The name would be more authentic as Leuric Spelteag.

Leric Speltigh. (badge). Sable, a butterfly between the horns of a crescent and in chief three plates, one and two, argent.
NOTE: Kobayashi Maru was the name of the ship and scenario in "Star Trek II." It was a major plot element. Please choose a different given name or family name.

Pavel Iosefovich. (name approval only)

Randwulf Raedwulfing. Vert, a wolf's head caboshed maintaining in its mouth a broken sword blade, point to sinister, argent and in chevron inverted two broken swords inverted proper.

NOTE: The proper form for "home of the stranger" would be Gallhaven, according to Mistress Eriod.

Stefan Albrecht Kaltstahl. (name approval only)

Thomas de Château Noir. Argent, in bend a heart, a sword bendwise sinister, a sword bendwise sinister inverted, and a heart gules.

*Three Rivers, Barony of. Per chevron inverted wavy argent and vert, a pall wavy azure, fimbriated argent, surmounted by a laurel wreath Or.
NOTE: This is poor practice, although it is canting.

Kingdom of the East

Kingdom of Meridies

Amanda Elizabeth of House William. (name approval only)

NOTE: Classic heraldry.

NOTE: Draw the chain with the annulets properly linked, not overlapped.

Giusseppe Luigi di Viticuso. (name approval only)

Gunnar of Iron Mountain. (name approval only)

Henry Percivale Kempe. Gules, on a chevron sable fimbriated between three pavilions argent, each flying to dexter a pennoncelle, three caltrops palewise Or.

Henry Percivale Kempe. (badge). Gules, a pavilion argent, flying to dexter a pennoncelle Or.

*Morgan Alanna Morcheartaigh. (name change; formerly Morgan Morcheartaigh). Sable, scaly, on a pale argent a mermaid affronty proper, crined Or, holding aloft in both hands a sword sable, hilted Or.

*Morgan Alyn Alwyn. Per bend argent and Or, a bend gules, overall a dragon rampant vert, within a bordure embattled azure.

Nakagawa no Ienobu. (badge for Clan Nigawa). Sable, a kuwagata helm crest argent and in chief a plate charged with the kanji "tomo". ("friend") sable, all within an annulet argent.

*Padruig Aoghann O' Uladh. (badge for Domus Plummeris). Sable, a pall inverted between in chief two estoiles argent.
NOTE: This would be better with a third estoile in base.

Robin of Cannock. Azure, two owls passant guardant respectant, wings elevated and addorsed, maintaining in their upraised talons a sword, within a bordure Or.

Kingdom of the Middle

Alexis MacAlister of Beverlay. Azure, a unicorn rampant to sinister between in pale two compass stars argent and in fess two plates.

*Elashava bas Riva. Quarterly Or and azure, in saltire a wooden spoon proper and a lute argent.

Elena Zada bint Hakim. Per pale argent and azure, in fess two butterflies counterchanged.
NOTE: Classic heraldry.

*Friedrich von Waffen. (badge). Argent, a ferret rampant sable.
NOTE: The use of crowns and coronets of any kind is reserved to kingdoms, principalities, and royal peers. Barons and baronesses do not have the right to use a coronet on their arms. (This rule has been in effect for a long time.) The ferret is now drawn sufficiently different from a lion, so I will pass the badge without the coronet.

*Giannetto Bello. Gules, on a pale nebuly endorsed nebuly argent, a schaum in profile sable.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

*Jararvellir, Barony of. (badge for Fermented Guild of Jararvellir) Purpure, in pale a bar vair and a catfish fesswise inverted Or.

Johann aus dem Schwarzwald. Per chevron inverted, per pale sable and gules, and Or, in cross a sun in splendor Or and three pine trees eradicated sable.

*Liusaidh MacLeoid. (name change; formerly Liusaidh an Carad)
NOTE: I have deleted "de Dunbheagan" because that is the seat of Clan MacLeoid, and only the chief's family may use that form.

Micheal MacAveely. Azure, a fess wreathed Or and gules between two bars gemel dancetty argent.
NOTE: Micheal is the correct form, not Miceal. Draw the dancetty more pronounced vertically.

Micheal MacAveely. (badge for House Starwood). Or, a pale raguly vert between two compass stars elongated to base azure.

*Middle, Kingdom of the. (seal for Office of the Dragon Herald). On a roundel a pale surmounted by a dragon rampant maintaining a straight trumpet bendwise sinister.

Nikolaus der Ausländer. (name approval only).

NOTE: The old arms become a badge.

Talan Gwynek. Argent, a fret formed of a mascle sable and two quills gules, in chief a thistle purpure, slipped and leaved vert.

*Tirion ferch Elissed. (name change; formerly Donna of Three Rivers).

Trobere Oakseed. Azure, a bend sinister gules, fimbriated argent, between two acorns inverted Or.

NOTE: Good heraldry.

Ursula von Liste. Azure, ermined argent, a gryphon segreant queueforchée within a bordure embattled Or.
NOTE: Good heraldry. Draw the ermining properly, with more ermine spots.

Kingdom of the West

Aislinn Gildara Breemore. (name approval only).

Andre of Man. (name approval only).

Angela of Silverwood. Gules, a rabbit salient and on a chief engrailed argent three daisies azure.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

Anne Faunehaven. (name approval only).

Arianna Margarite d'Erte. Argent, a pegasus rampant to sinister, and on a chief arched sable two fleursdelys argent.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

Ava Trudine of Tregoenning. Vert, a clarion argent.
NOTE: Classic heraldry.

Bronwyn ferch Eliseus. (name approval only)

Corwin of Fox Mountain. Argent, two foxes salient respectant gules, and a mullet of eight points sable.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

Cuby of Elmhurst. Per bend sinister gules and argent, two elm branches bendwise sinister counterchanged.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

Daegan of Ravenswood. Vert, a pair of wings conjoined argent, in chief three estoiles Or.

Daniel the Wanderer. Vert, two scarpes between three gouttes and three garbs Or.

Dermod Uí Neíll. (name approval only)
NOTE: The correct Irish form of O'Neil is Uí Neíll.

*Edward of Guildford. (name change; formerly Edward Fithby.

*Fettburg, Barony of. (badge for the Order d'Elégance). Per fess argent ermined gules and gules, in base a maunch argent.
NOTE: This would be better as wholly French: L'Ordre d'Elégance. (I really don't see the need for baronies to have more than one baronial order.)
*Garin de Gramercy. (badge). Per pale azure and gules, a cinquefoil erminois.

Guilliame Arnaut. Quarterly gules and argent, a cross quarterpierced counterchanged, in sinister chief a fleurdelys azure.
NOTE: This is unbalanced. It would be much better with another fleurdelys in dexter base.

*Hugh ap Llewellyn. (release of two badges). 1) An ankh interlaced with a quatrefoil knot.,
2) Vert, on a card pique sable a crux ansata Or pierced gules.

Hugh Louis. Per chevron dovetailed Or and sable, in base an eagle's head erased Or.
NOTE: Good heraldry. Nobody could find lautrin. Please document it and its gender. I have deleted it from the name so I can pass the device.

*Jacob Seumas MacGregor. Erminois, three lion's heads erased to sinister gules.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

*James the Sinister. Argent, on a bend sinister raguly between two roses sable, seeded argent, barbed vert, a rose argent, seeded sable, barbed vert.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

Jean le Montebank. (name approval only).
NOTE: The badge was withdrawn due to a conflict with the Award of the Sable Bell. (Shire of Carillion): A bell sable. Montebank does not seem to be a place, so I have changed de to le.

Kelly de l'Estoile. Gyronny of six purpure and argent, a mullet of six points azure within a bordure counterchanged.

*Keridwen o'r Mynydd Gwyrdd. Per chevron argent and vert, in base a falcon close argent.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

Kevin Ioseph of Tregoenning. Or, on a cross cotised azure, a Catherine wheel Or.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

Marc de Beaumanoir. Or, a dragon sejant affrontée gules, bellied Or, wings displayed sable, within a bordure gules, mullety Or.

*Morgillian of Greenbough. (badge). Or, a pinecone inverted vert.
NOTE: Parker says. (p. 462) pinecones have stems down by default.

Morna an Monadh. (name approval only).
NOTE: Monadh means "of turf or peat." Morna Monadh thus would mean Morna Made of Peat. I have added an to make this into a place name.

Rosamund von Ravenna. Vert, a raven close to sinister argent within an orle of cinquefoils Or.
NOTE: Good heraldry. The German form of Ravenna is Ravenna, not Rabene.

*Rosewitha Wolfsdottir. (badge). A unicorn's head couped to sinister azure.
NOTE: Turning the head from dexter to sinister is a full point of difference, and thus there is the minimum legal amount of difference from Master Hrorek's badge. As a matter of courtesy to Master Hrorek, I would ask Rosewitha to consider adding a minor point, such as erased instead of couped.

Rurik Fairhair. Argent, on a pile bendwise sinister issuant from sinister chief between in bend two oak leaves vert, a felling axe reversed argent.

Selivia de l'Estoile. Gyronny of six purpure and argent, a mullet of six points azure.

Selfran Ravensdottir. (submitted as Silfren Ravenschild). (badge). A horseshoe inverted winged azure.
NOTE: Silfren is not a valid Welsh name. The closest I can come is Selfran. (sel. (ardor) + bran. (raven)). This is a masculine given name. Ravenschild is not the period patronymic usage, which was Ravensdottir. In order to pass the nice badge, I have changed the name to Selfran Ravensdottir.

Suliman ibn Jafar. Azure, a hand of Fatima couped between three goblets argent.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

Tanaki Akira. (name approval only).
NOTE: Akira is the given name and Tanaki is a family name, so the proper order is Tanaki Akira, not Akira Tanaki.

Torold of Hawkhurst. (name approval only).

Ursus of Rydborg. (name approval only).

William of Owlswood. Tierced per pall argent, sable and vert, in base two owls close guardant respectant argent.
NOTE: Good heraldry.

Yvain of Hollingsgate. (name approval only)

END OF ACCEPTANCES

RETURNS May 26, 1984 A.S. XIX

Kingdom of An Tir

Mairi Morag MacLeoid of Loch na hiolaire. Per fess sable and ermine, in chief a saltire Or surmounted by a tower argent, enflamed to chief proper, both issuant from the line of division, and in base in saltire a battleaxe and a sword sable.
NOTE: This is not period style. It is too complex and looks like an attempt to marshall, by a per fess division, two unrelated arms. I suggest the saltire be removed and the tower raised up off of the line of division.

Vulcanfeldt, Shire. Sable, on a fess argent an apple gules within a laurel wreath vert, in chief a demisun issuant from the fess Or and in base a mountain couped argent.
NOTE: This is not period style. Charges should not issue from ordinaries. The laurel wreath and apple are very tiny. There are five types of charges. Please simplify. Branch arms should set a good example.

Kingdom of Atlantia

Cara Marie of Carlisle. Or, on a pile vert between two roses stalked and leaved in pile convex gules a snowy owl close affronty proper. (Nyctea scandiaca)
NOTE: The device conflicts with Calista nic Ghilleandrais: Or, two garden roses gules, slipped and leaved, their stems extended in crescent and tied in base in a Bourchier knot, and on a chief triangular vert, a swan naiant argent charged with a gouttedesang.

Donal MacRuiseart. (badge). Gules, four anchors conjoined in cross Or.
NOTE: The badge conflicts with Feney: Gules, a cross moline rebated and lozengepierced Or; and Densey: Gules, a cross moline pierced Or. (Papworth, P. 613).

Giles O'Culzean. Argent, a weaver finch rising maintaining in its dexter talon a sprig of heather proper and a chief embattled gules. (Proceus culcullatus). (Caluna vulgaris)
NOTE: The weaver finch as emblazoned is nearly entirely argent, with legs Or. As such, it vanishes into the argent field, except for the brown wing tips. This is metal on metal. (The previous submission showed an allbrown bird.) Please resubmit with the bird in a heraldic color.

Guy d'Aigles. (badge for Siegfried von Templehof). Argent, on a bend sable between a Lindwurm passant reguardant to sinister and a doubleheaded eagle displayed gules, three Latin crosses palewise.
NOTE: This is too busy for a badge. it would be complex even for a device.

Meagan ferch Rhys of Glynebwy. Azure, semé of roses Or, a dove rising, wings displayed, argent.
NOTE: This conflicts with Francesca of Bright Angel: Azure, a dove displayed, head elevated, argent. The addition of the roses is one full point, but there is only a minor point of difference of position.

Sean Mac Ramsay. Per chevron argent and azure, two fleursdelys gules, and a sealion erect Or.
NOTE: Ramsay is a surname derived from a place name. It is not a given name, and so may not be used as a patronymic. Try Sean Ramsay. The device conflicts with Colbert de la Forêt Purpure: Per chevron ployé argent and azure, two fleursdelys purpure and a fish haurient embowed argent.

Douglas Orion. Per bend sinister nebuly azure and argent, three mullets counterchanged.
NOTE: The device is excessively complex. The sinister chief mullet is indistinguishable due to the counterchanging against the complex line of partition. Delete the third mullet and have the other two in bend, or some other simpler form (that doesn't conflict).

Edmund Vernay. Quarterly sable and argent, four mullets counterchanged.
NOTE: This conflicts exactly with Marshall. (Papworth, p. 997). Beware of Camberford: Quarterly Or and gules, four mullets counterchanged.

Wilihelm Heimirich von Donnerkeil. (badge). Gules, on a pale Or, voided sable, endorsed, a pheon, a bordure embattled Or.
NOTE: This is too complex for a badge. Please simplify.

Kingdom of Calontir

Aethelred de Lowther. Or, six annulets sable between two flaunches azure.
NOTE: The device conflicts with Lowther: Or, six annulets sable. (Papworth, p. 6), and with Lothar of Rothenborg: Or, a sword fracted sable, hilted gules, between two flaunches azure.

Calontir, Kingdom of. (heraldic titles). 1) Merlin Herald: There is a mundane Merlyne Pursuivant. 2) Pall P.: Too close to Pale H. (Middle) and Pallet P. (East).

Gnomountain, Shire.
NOTE: Paracelsus died in 1541. Since, by your own O.E.D. citation, he coined the name "gnome" for spirits of earth, this usage is clearly in period. Your documentation is therefore false. The formation "gnomountain" does not appear to be a valid period construction. In period, they would have used Gnome Mountain. Since there were place names using mythical creatures' names, you could try Gnome Mountain.

Kingdom of Meridies

Ammalynne Starchild Haraldsdottir. (badge for Haraldstad). Argent, a tree blasted and eradicated sable, entwined in its roots a battleaxe fesswise inverted gules, all within a bordure indented azure, mulletty argent.
NOTE: This is too complex for a badge. Please simplify. You could try dropping the axe.

Catharian Prieddeu Gwynedd.
NOTE: Catharian is not a form of Catherine, but instead means that you are a Cathar (of the Cathar heresy. (see Albigensian Crusade)). The Welsh form of Catherine is Catrin. Preiddeu is the correct spelling, but "The Spoils of Gwynedd" is not a periodstyle Welsh byname.

Ceitar the Hybernian. Sable, a sword bendwise inverted, the blade enflamed upon the upper edge proper, between in pale two estoiles, all within an orle Or.
NOTE: Celtar is not a valid variant of Caoilte. I suggest you simply use Caoilte. The device is not period style, as it is unbalanced, the orle is drawn much too thin, and the sword is enflamed only at one edge. This would be much better with a normal orle and the sword turned fesswise and enflamed on both edges.

Eoin mac Uilleam Caimbeul o Lochandubh. Gules, two gouttes inverted conjoined in chevron inverted between three bezants, one and two, within a bordure Or.
NOTE: I agree that Parker lists icicle as an alternate name for a goutte inverted. For the sake of clarity we will just call them gouttes inverted.
NOTE that Parker draws them with wavy outlines, not as your drawing has them. This device is still not a period arrangement and the icicles are not really recognizable. Try drawing them as drawn in Parker and using three of them in pall between three bezants.

Nakagawa no Ienobu. Sable, the sinister upper quarter of a kuwagata helm crest bendwise sinister within an annulet argent.
NOTE: This mon conflicts with: 1) Komura Shimitsu: Sable, two chevronels couped countercouched within an annulet argent; 2) Keridwen of Montrose. (badge): Sable, an iris within an annulet argent; 3) Elspeth Gunn of Strathmore. (badge): Sable, a wyvern passant to sinister within an annulet argent; 4) U.S. I Corps: Sable, an annulet argent. (Military Ordinary, entry 021). The charge is not recognizable and thus should not be used. Use an entire helm crest.

Kingdom of the Middle

Edward FitzRanulf. Gules, a chevron inverted and a chevron conjoined Or, overall a lozenge per saltire sable and argent.
NOTE: Device appeal denied. Most of the College felt that this is not period style. It requires a special size of the lozenge for it to work, which cannot be blazoned. It is visually confusing.

Middle, Kingdom of the. (badge for Office of the Dragon Herald). Argent, a pale gules, overall a dragon rampant vert maintaining a straight trumpet bendwise sinister Or.
NOTE: The College has never allowed the registration of tinctured badges by herald's offices. They may only register tinctureless seals.

Kingdom of the West

Anne Barton of Great Oaks. (badge). Argent, on a fess azure between a barley ear fesswise reversed and a tun palewise vert, three acorns bendwise sinister Or.
NOTE: This is too busy for a badge. Please simplify.

Davous Windrider of Clear Mountain. Or, a winged dolphin haurient, wings elevated and addorsed, azure and in dexter chief three mullets of eight points gules.
NOTE: Davous is not a valid latinization of David. Monks, being literate in Latin, would not have made such an error. Try David or Davidus. The device conflicts with the arms of the Dauphin. (Crown Prince) of France: Or, a dolphin haurient azure, finned gules. Famous arms like these require two full points of difference.

Ivan Igor Bodonovich.
NOTE: Name not approved. A Russian name consists of a given name plus a patronymic plus an optional family name formed from an ancestor's given name. They did not use two given names. Bodo does not seem to be a valid Russian name, although Bohdan/Bogdan is. You could be Ivan Bohdanovich Igorov.

Reinhardt Fenring von Bayerich.
NOTE: Name not approved. Reinhardt is fine. Please document Fenring. Bayerich. (bayerisch) is the adjectival form, meaning Bavarian. Use "von Bayern" or "der Bayeriche," depending on whether you want "of Bavaria" or "the Bavarian," respectively.

Selfran Ravensdottir. Azure, a horseshoe inverted winged argent.
NOTE: The device conflicts with the Princes von Trautson: Azure, a horseshoe. (inverted) argent. (Horseshoes in Europe had a reverse default position.) It also conflicts with Anne Douglas of the Seven Stars: Purpure, mullety Or, a horseshoe inverted argent.
