Unto the members of the College of Arms and any others who may read this missive, greetings from Alisoun MacCoul of Elphane, Laurel Queen of Arms!

As you may guess, this letter has been complete for some time. The delay in its distribution has naught to do with the distribution service provided by Master Vasili.

Unfortunately, one of the unfortunate by-products of the employment modifications noted in the cover letter was the loss of access to the PostScript printer on which the letters of acceptance and return have been printed for some time. (Laurel's mundane deputy, now head of the department, decided to assert his independence by getting territorial on printer usage!)

In very short order, a Hewlett-Packard IIP was acquired by Laurel's new department to allow her to pursue her important work for the College of Arms (and, of course, for her mundane employer). Just as this letter was complete, it succumbed to a malady of the power supply which seems to be common to the early runs of this printer. Since then, Laurel has been rotating around every laser printer in the building as projects pass through on the fly.

Each one handles the extended characters sets and formatting differently. No sooner would we complete the reformat of the letter and print a "galley proof" to check for typos in the printer-sensitive characters than the printer would disappear overnight and a new printer reappear.

It being somewhat difficult to explain just why this was so inconvenient, we have quietly formatted and reformatted this letter nine times. Finally, today, we managed to keep our hands on the new LaserJet III that we have for software testing long enough to print, proof and finalize the letter.

Hallelujah! We apologize for the delay and hope that we will be able to keep this long enough to clear the backlog.

Your servant,
[Alisoun]

P.S. We hope that you are not overly disappointed in the change from Palatine to the CG Times which is built into the LaserJet III.
