Not all Letters of Intent may be considered when they are originally scheduled on this Cover Letter. Date of mailing of the LoI, date of receipt of the Laurel packet, or other factors may delay consideration of certain Letters of Intent. Additionally, not all Letters of Intent received have been scheduled because the administrative requirements (receipt of the forms packet, receipt of the necessary fees, etc.) have not yet been met.

REMINDER: due to problems with receipt of Laurel packets, until the packet containing the paperwork is received, the letter may not be scheduled.

Known World 1998

We wish to thank Mistress Marta and her crew for the excellent job they did in autocratting this year's Known World Heraldic Symposium. A wonderful time was had by the over 100 attendees from all over the Known World.

Known World 1999

At Known World 1997 the possibility of a bid for the 1999 Known World from the kingdom of Drachenwald was discussed. The members of the College attending the discussion by and large favored the idea. As it turns out, that was a very good thing, since while two bids were received, they both came from Drachenwald. They both were very good, and it was quite difficult to decide between them. However, based on e-mail commentary and commentary from those attending this year's Known World, we have decided to go with the bid from Uppsala, Sweden. It will be held the weekend of June 9-11, 1999. More information will be forthcoming.

Miscellany:

"I say that some insignia are proper to a rank or office and that anyone may bear them if he holds that rank or office, as for example the insignia of bishops. And anyone who has that rank can bear those insignia. This is not permitted to others, and if someone who is not entitled to them bears them he incurs the charge of fraud. And so I think that those who bear the insignia of the doctor of law when they are not doctors are liable to that penalty."

Bartolo da Sassoferrato's Tract on Insignia and Coats of Arms

Until next month, pray believe that I am, and remain,

Your faithful servant,

Jaelle of Armida

Laurel Queen of Arms
