Unto the members of the College of Arms and all others who may read this missive do Mistress Jaelle of Armida, Laurel Queen of Arms, and Mistress Sionyn Muirgen ní Dhomnall, Pelican Queen of Arms, send Greetings!

The June Laurel meeting was held on Saturday, May 29, 1999 and considered the following letters of intent: East (January 13, rescheduled pending receipt of payment), Ealdormere (dated January 15, redated by Laurel based on postmark to February 19), Atenveldt (February 1), Middle (February 5), Lochac (February 7), Drachenwald (February 15), AEthelmearc (February 24), Artemesia (February 25), An Tir (February 26), Ansteorra (February 27) and Meridies (February 28). Atlantia (February 14) and Outlands (February 5) were done as a road show in the Shire of Aros, Principality of Nordmark, Kingdom of Drachenwald on June 12, 1999.

Known World 1999

Known World went very well, and we are very pleased with the turnout and the effort put in to it by the staff, the instructors, the cooks and the people who wrote articles for the proceedings. There were attendees from half the kingdoms in the Known World, which pleased me greatly. I would like to especially thank Lord Frithiof, the autocrat for all his hard work, Master Pietari for arranging the classes and editing the proceedings, Duchess Vana for her excellent feast, and all the instructors.

Laurel Reminder

All submission packages, electronic copies of every LoI from March 1999, and payments should go to the new Laurel, Dame Elsbeth Anne Roth (Kathryn Van Stone, 1194 Firwood Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15243 (412) 306-0416 kvs@cs.cmu.edu). I will be staying on the roster, so please keep me on your mailing list and send me copies of all LoIs and LoCs.

Stepping Down

At Known World we invested Dame Elsbeth as the new Laurel Queen of Arms. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped me over the last three years as Laurel. First and foremost Dame Sionyn, Pelican Queen of Arms. Without her I never would have put in a bid, and I could never have done the job without her and Dame Brenna. They have done incredible amounts of work, above and beyond the call of duty. If there is any credit for what I have accomplished as Laurel, it should go to them and my staff. Secondly, all the members of the College of Arms who provided thoughtful and useful commentary to aid me in the hundreds of decisions I made each month. Thirdly, my local staff who faithfully came and filed, stamped, filed, collating, filed, and helped me with just about every aspect of the Laurel job. They were truly lifesavers. Fourthly, my three housemates (Aodhan, Brenna and Gauss) who had to deal with a houseful of heralds every month plus the weekly work sessions, as well as a basement full of files and strange books. Fifth, I would like to thank all my predecessors who provided me with not only help and advice, but goals to strive towards. Finally, I would like to thank my beloved husband who held my hand when the job seemed to be too much, understood my problems, and was willing to wait to get married until my term was (just about) over.

Being Laurel has been more work than I could ever have dreamed, but also more fun. It has allowed me to serve the people of the Society, and get to know the SCA throughout the world. I am grateful to have had this opportunity.

I wish Dame Elsbeth the best, and task the College to support her in her tenure. Laurel does not operate in a vacuum. Laurel needs the help and support of the entire College in order to do the job as it should be.

In line with that, please move me from Laurel to Argent Snail, and move Mistress Sionyn Muirgen ní Dhomnall to Mereswin, but keep us on the mailing list. We intend to continue to comment and to help and support the new Laurel Queen of Arms.

Pray believe that I am, and remain,

Your faithful servant,

Jaelle of Armida

Former Laurel Queen of Arms

and

Argent Snail Herald
