Adwen verch Gryffyn. Name.

Ailis Linne. Name and device. Azure, a pale offset argent estencelly azure between two Hungerford knots argent.

Archibald of Stoke on Trent. Device. Vert, on a bend sinister between a glove clenched and a chalice argent a rapier sable.

The device does not conflict with Aaron of Buckminster, Vert, on a bend sinister between two arrows bendwise sinister argent, a sword vert. There is one CD for the change in type of secondary charges and one for their orientation.

Ariella of Thornbury. Name and device. Gyronny Or and vert, a chief vairy argent and sable.

Averill Messinger. Name.

The submitter requested an authentic 13th century form; however, there is no evidence of Averill before the late 16th century. Bordure and Fause Lozenge propose a hypothetical name Everill derived from the continental name Everelda. The evidence for Everill is good enough for registration but insufficient to change the name from a documented form.

Cadell Blaidd Du. Device. Per bend sinister purpure and sable, a mullet of four points throughout between four ermine spots argent.

Ceinwen ferch Llewelyn ab Owain. Name.

George Anne. Name (see RETURNS for device).

Sancia Lafond Freyser de Cameron. Alternate name Shadiyah al-Tawilah and badge. (Fieldless) An ibis rising wings displayed sable maintaining an ankh Or.

Ailitha ingen Chathail. Name.

Please inform the submitter that a name mixing English and Gaelic spelling was vanishingly rare in period. As the given name is solidly English, the name would be considerably more authentic with an English byname as well.

Ainar Magnusson. Name and device. Sable, on a pile throughout between two mullets of six points argent a raven sable.

Nice raven!

Ascelyn Balstene. Device. Per chevron argent and gules, a mortar and pestle vert and a comet argent.

This is clear of Vallust Balstene, reblazoned elsewhere in this letter, Per chevron argent and gules, an armadillo statant contourny vert and a comet bendwise inverted argent. Cecilie die Ärtztin. Badge. (Fieldless) A bat-winged dolphin haurient contourny sable.

Celestria Monelyght le Dragon. Name.

Chenwrec MacGriogair. Name.

The submitter should be informed that mixing an English name with the Gaelic spelling of a byname was extremely rare in period. A form of MacGregor that is much closer in time and spelling convention to his given name is M'Gregere, dated to 1292 in Reaney and Wilson, A Dictionary of English Surnames.

Conall Ó Ríoghbhardáin. Device. Per chevron azure and argent, three crescents argent and a natural leopard rampant sable spotted argent.

Crystal of Middleford. Name and device. Per saltire vert and azure a hippogriff segreant within a bordure argent.

This is clear of Elspeth Charissa aus Reinwald, Purpure, a pegasus rampant, wings inverted and addorsed, within a bordure argent. There is one CD for the field and a second CD for the difference between a pegasus and a hippogriff.

Deirdre is SCA compatible.

Gabriele René de Bernard. Name and device. Argent, two bears combattant gules and a rose, a chief engrailed azure.

Gest Grimsson. Device change. Vert, a narwhal hauriant embowed argent.

This is in conflict with Balin the Fairhaired, Sable, a whale haurient argent. There is only 1 CD for change of field. However, his current device, Per pale vert and sable, a narwhale hauriant embowed argent, is also in conflict and therefore we are registering the device under the Grandfather Clause. His current device is released.

Andrew Quintero. Badge. Argent, a feather bendwise sinister gules, a bordure wavy azure.

This was pended from the September 1999 LoAR.

Alessandra Gatta. Name change from Alessandra Bonaventura and device. Per saltire gules and argent, a cat dormant contourny sable between four mice passant contourny each maintaining a bell counterchanged.

Aoífe ni Mháille. Name.

Branwen Madyn Wallis. Badge. (Fieldless) On a cross of Canterbury Or a cross of ermine spots sable.

Briana MacNamara. Name.

Briana is SCA compatible. Submitted as Briana MacConmara, the surname is Gaelic, and, as such the gender of the patronymic is incorrect. If we corrected the gender of the patronymic, then the name would have two weirdnesses: mixed English and Gaelic orthographies and the use of an SCA compatible name. Therefore, we have Anglicized the surname.

Cáemfind ingen Chobthaig. Badge. (Fieldless) A beehive Or.

Caia Snowden. Device. Azure, crescenty, on a lozenge ployé throughout argent an ermine spot sable.

Please ask the submitter to draw the crescents rounder and fuller.

Cailean McArdle. Badge. Argent, a Latin cross sable, in base a rose fesswise gules, slipped and leaved vert.

Colin McNab. Device. Sable, a wolf sejant ululant, in chief three lozenges, one and two, argent.

Eleonora Salutati. Device. Per pale azure and argent, two peacocks close respectant counterchanged maintaining between them a bezant, a bordure counterchanged.

Emelyn Pacok. Badge. (Fieldless) A peacock's plume palewise purpure.

The depiction of the feather is from a period source. While we would prefer to see a period heraldic depiction of the feather, we do accept charges drawn in period forms.

Giustina Ottavanti. Name and device. Per chevron argent and purpure, four decrescents one, two and one counterchanged.

Gwyneth Nyghtyngall. Device. Per bend sinister gules and sable, two mullets of four points argent.

Lucrezia da Diamante Nero. Badge. Per bend Or and sable, on a compass star per bend purpure and argent, a lozenge sable.

Mahieu Griffaud. Name (see RETURNS for device).

Máille ingen Bhrain Cadal. Alternate name Brenna dei Leoni la poetessa.

Marion le Red. Name (see RETURNS for device).

Mariora Bullen. Name change from Marjoria Bullen.

Medb ingen Gillai-Brigte. Name and device. Argent, a chaplet of oak leaves fructed vert and capped Or, on a chief azure three oak leaves palewise Or.

Submitted as Medb ingen Brigte, the documentation stated that the patronymic was derived from MacBride. MacBride, however, is derived from the Irish given name Gilla Brigde. Therefore,we have corrected the name to not only the correct Gaelic form but consistent with the Old Irish spellings used in the rest of the name.

Morgunn mac Tuirc. Name.

Octavia Columella. Name (see RETURNS for device).

Rhys Terfan Greydragon. Name change from Talfan Greydragon.

Submitted as Rhys Terafan Greydragon, according to Harpy Herald, Terfan means bright peak, and is thus acceptable, but Terafan only means three raspberries. Also no documentation was given indication how "Ter" could be a variant of "Twr" so the name could not be justified as a form of "Twr Afon". Therefore we replaced the first byname with an acceptable alternative.

Richard Storm. Badge. (Fieldless) Issuant palewise to base from a cloud argent, a lightning bolt Or.

Sine ní Dheaghaidh. Badge. Per pale azure and argent, all semy of bees counterchanged.

Sonja Flicker. Name.

Theunis MacDhómhnuill. Name and device. Or, in fess a sword inverted between two eagles rising respectant sable, on a chief triangular azure three gouttes d'eau.

Tholen der Egel. Name.

Thorgrimr inn kyrri. Name.

Uilliam MacCloskey. Device. Ermine, a bear statant, on a chief sable three roses argent.

Please inform the submitter that ermine spots need to be drawn above the bear as well as below. The identifiability of the bear is borderline, but we are giving the submitter the benefit of the doubt.

Una Scheib. Name change from Una of Aire Faucon.

Her current name is released.

Vallust Balstene. Reblazon of device. Per chevron argent and gules, an armadillo statant contourny vert and a comet bendwise inverted argent.

The posture of the armadillo and the orientation of the comet were inaccurate in the original blazon.

William MacGregor. Device. Erminois, a greyhound salient gules within a bordure embattled sable.

Wojciech Bobrowski. Name and device. Azure crusilly formy argent, a falcon rising wings addorsed maintaining a horseshoe inverted Or.

This does not conflict with Eve Nightstalker Azure, an owl striking Or, beaked and membered argent, orbed sable. I am hereby overturning the precedent declaring that raptors are raptors. Falcons and owls were different charges in period and have differing outlines; therefore we are allowing a CD (although not substantial difference) between them. For a fuller discussion see the cover letter.

Wolfram Brant. Name and device. Bendy sinister argent and azure, in bend sinister two wolf's heads erased contourny gules.

Nice name!

Adriana von Vogelsang. Name change from Adriana von Volgelsang.

Amy of Calafia. Holding name and device (see RETURNS for name). Or, three bees and a bordure embattled sable.

Submitted under the name Jenny O' Shaughnessy

Antoinette de Bourgogne. Name and device. Per chevron gules and Or, two mazers and a ring of keys counterchanged.

Antonio di Marco. Name.

This does not conflict with Antonella di Marco. Antonella is a diminutive of Antonia, not Antonio, and the two names neither look nor sound alike.

Beathog nic Dhonnchaidh. Name.

Bran mac Máeli Brigte. Name.

Submitted as Bran Máel Brigte, Máel Brigte is a given name, and no evidence was given to show that it would be a reasonable descriptive byname. Therefore we are converting the byname to a patronymic by adding the patronymic marking and placing the name in its genitive form.

Brendan Stagheart. Name.

Caitriona nic an Clérigh. Name.

Caoilfhionn inghean Amhlaoibh. Name.

Ciana Masina della Luna. Name.

Conall Ó Cearnaigh. Device. Vert, a hawk striking within a bordure embattled Or.

This is clear of Ciaran Amac Meara, reblazoned elsehwere in this letter, Vert, a goshawk close sustained by the fist of a gloved hand couped fesswise reversed, a bordure embattled Or. The gloved hand is large enough to count for difference.

Cristina Da Napoli. Badge. (Fieldless) A butterfly volant contourny bendwise sinister wings elevated and addorsed argent.

Domhall mac Pharlain. Name.

Duncan Kerr. Name and device. Azure, a bend sinister and in chief a boar passant contourny argent.

Henrik der Herzhaft. Name.

Job Bowman. Name.

Katharine Nic Canna. Device. Argent, on a bend sinister azure between a cat couchant guardant gules and a rose azure slipped and leaved vert an open book palewise argent.

Katrín Brjánsdóttir. Device. Azure, two keys crossed in saltire wards to base Or and a tierce argent.

Kieran le Dragoner. Name.

Martin FitzJames. Name and device. Per chevron argent and sable, a rose chevronwise reversed proper slipped and leaved vert and a sword fesswise argent.

Please instruct the submitter to draw the per chevron line more steeply.

Martin FitzJames. Badge. (Fieldless) A sword inverted argent winged gules.

Matthew Fitz Michael. Name.

Morgan Horsekeeper. Name.

Némdaille Fholtchaem ingen Broin. Name.

Onóra nic an Cléirigh. Name.

Rodrigo de Navarra. Name and device. Vert, a chevron embattled between three goblets Or.

Rosalinda Beatriz de Carrasco. Name and device. Azure, a pale argent, overall two chevronels counterchanged.

Submitted as Rosalinda Beatriz Carrasco, the original forms included the de. Since Carrasco is a placename, the preposition is also appropriate, so we have restored the name to the submitted form.

Stefen Winter von Rosenheim. Name.

Steven of Calafia. Holding name and device. Per fess purpure and vert, two bendlets and two scarpes fretted, in pale three thistles in pale Or.

His name, Culloch MacUalraig, was returned on the December LoAR.

Þorfastr Varinsson. Name.

William le Fendur. Badge. Per bend sinister sable and Or, in pale an eagle’s jambe couped a la quise Or and a grenade proper.

Katarzyna Wilkowa. Name change from holding name Katarzyna of Attemark.

Morwenna of Morwenstow. Name and device. Argent estencely, on a bend sinister engrailed azure three decrescents palewise argent.

Because it is reasonable for a resident of a town to be named after the town's patron saint, this name is not presumptuous. Furthermore, Saint Morwenna, the patron saint of Morwenstow, is not important enough to protect.

The sparks are not in the typical arrangement of one and two. However, Brault, Early Blazon, indicates that there are several valid depictions of estencely, including the two and one arrangement used here.

Ciaran mac Meara. Reblazon of device. Vert, a goshawk close sustained by the fist of a gloved hand couped fesswise reversed, a bordure embattled Or.

The glove is large enough to count as a co-primary

Aedan macAirt Scellic Michil. Name and device. Vert, a stag’s head cabossed, between the antlers a cross potent and a base invected argent.

The submitter requested an authentic 7th century form, but we have no evidence that the monastery of Scellic Michil existed before the 9th century.

Basileios Philanthropenos Philomathes. Device. Argent, a chevron between three crosses of Jerusalem gules.

This was pended from the September 1999 LoAR to determine if the Earl of Carrick, Argent, a chevron gules, was important enough to protect. While I got very little commentary on the importance of the arms of the Earl of Carrick, given that the arms are only found in relatively specialized sources and that the arms have little impact on modern armory, we believe that they are not important enough to protect.

Dairine of Oak Hill. Name (see RETURNS for device).

Deordaeg Dunning. Device. Azure, a hawk’s lure between three pheons Or.

Eric of Forth Castle. Holding name and device (see RETURNS for name). Per bend sinister sable and azure, on a lozenge argent a bird's head erased sable.

Submitted under the name Eric Raven.

Gwendolen MacKaill. Name.

Submitted as Gylmyne Ardrossanne, we changed it to the form above to match the available documentation.

Hugh Berfot. Device. Argent, a fess vert between three lanterns sable.

Jehanne du May. Badge. (Fieldless) A vol argent, between and conjoined to its wingtips a mullet of eight points Or.

Katherine de Lorraine. Name and device. Or, on a pale gules a whelk inverted Or.

Llyr ap Morgwn. Device. Azure, two sea wolves respectant within a bordure wavy argent.

Meridies, Kingdom of. Badge for the Royal University of Meridies (see RETURNS for name). Per pale argent and sable, a vol and in chief a mullet of seven points counterchanged.

The name was returning for being too generic; therefore, it is usable as a unregistered designation.

Morfydd ferch Bronwen. Device. Quarterly purpure and argent, in bend a mask of comedy and a mask of tragedy argent, a bordure counterchanged.

Margaret Powell. Device. Argent, a talbot passant guardant azure, on a chief vert, three crosses formy Or.

Margaret has permission to conflict with Lucrezia di Francesca, Argent, a hound statant and on a chief azure three crosses swallowtail Or.

Saher Faux. Badge. Or, a lantern within a bordure indented sable.

While there was some discussion concerning the identifiability of the lantern, the depiction is grandfathered to the submitter.

Signý Ingadóttir. Device. Per chevron ermine and purpure, in base a swan naiant contourny argent.

This would be in conflict with the former arms of Catelin the Patient, Per bend sinister engrailed purpure and plummety bendwise argent and vert, a swan naiant to sinister argent; however, those arms were released in May 1999.

Temair Donn ingen Donnchada. Name.

Submitted as Temair Donn ingen Donnchad, we added the a to put the patronymic in the genitive form as required by the rules of Gaelic grammar.

Uilleag Ó Conmhaic. Name (see RETURNS for device).

Submitted as Uilleag OConmhac, the forms had Ó and Conmhac needed to be put in its genitive form as required by the rules of Gaelic grammar.

Valdimarr de Tamewurthe. Name and device. Per chevron rayonny gules and argent, two chess rooks argent and a phoenix gules rising from flames proper.

Submitted as Valdemarr de Tamewurthe, we changed the given name to match the available documentation.

Winefrid of North Lake. Device. Azure, on a bend between two trees blasted and eradicated argent three escarbuncles azure.

Please advise the submitter to draw the trees with enough interior white to be clearly visible on the blue field.

Rosamund von Bardowiek. Device. Argent, a chevron gules, overall a caltrop sable.

This was pended from the November 1999 LoAR until we decided whether the Earl of Carrick, Argent, a chevron gules, was important enough to protect, already in process in November. While I got very little commentary on the importance of the arms of the Earl of Carrick, given that the arms are only found in relatively specialized sources and that the arms have little impact on modern armory, we believe that they are not important enough to protect.

Croatia. Blazon correction. Checky of five traits gules and argent.

We explicitly blazon the number of bars in the flag of the United States. The number of traits seems equally important to the Croatian flag, so we see no reason not to blazon it explicitly.

Croatia, Ancient. Arms. Azure, in pale a mullet of six points Or and a crescent argent.

Dalmatia. Arms. Azure, three lions' heads cabossed crowned Or.

Ragusa (Dubrovnik, Republic of). Arms. Azure, two bars gules.

Latvia, Republic of. Blazon correction. Per fess azure and per pale argent and gules, a demi-sun Or issuant from the line of division and a lion and a griffin combattant counterchanged.

Lithuania, Republic of. Blazon correction. Gules, a knight armed cap-à-pie mounted on a horse salient argent, brandishing a sword proper and maintaining a shield azure charged with a patriarchal cross Or.

Nauru, Republic of. Flag. Azure, a fess Or and in dexter base a mullet of twelve points argent.

Slavonia. Arms. Azure, on a fess wavy gules fimbriated argent a marten courant proper, in chief a mullet of six points Or.

Dougal McCracken. Device. Azure, a sun, on a chief indented argent three shamrocks azure.

Elizabeth Anne of the Danube. Name.

Ezabel de Vaux. Name (see PENDS for device).

Submitted as Ezabell, the submitter requested Ezabel. Since this is also a reasonable form of the name, we have registered it instead.

Giovanni di Sienna. Household name Compagnie du Graal.

This was pended to discuss whether a literary reference to the Knights of the Grail was important enough to protect. While I received little commentary, the evidence indicates that it is not. It is also true that there is a tradition of naming orders after important legendary artifacts, the most notable being the Order of the Golden Fleece. We therefore believe that such while such an order may imply a group intending to emulate the Arthurian knights, barring any notable actual Orders of the Grail, we must assume that they are not pretending to be the Arthurian knights.

Lassar ingen Laídig. Name.

Submitted as Lassar Laídech, the byname needed to be put in a genitive form. As the submitter also asked for an authentic Early Irish form, we have changed the post period to the early Irish patronymic marker.

Leona Roy Colquhoun. Device. Per pale argent and gules, a cat sejant between in fess two arrows counterchanged.

Nadrah bint Lu’lu’ al-Qadisi. Name change from Medhbh O’Duibhdabhoireann of Clontarf.

Her current name is released.

Yngvarr Feilan Rauðúlfsson. Name and device. Per fess sable and vert, a pile inverted between in chief two triskeles argent.

Alberic Wolf. Name.

Cecille de Baskervyl. Name.

Todd of Esfenn. Holding name and device (see RETURNS for name). Argent, a moose’s head couped close contourny sable.

Submitted under the name Mungo Amadan Mor.

George Anne. Device. Vair, a cat passant guardant herissony sable.

Conflict with William the Silent Or, a natural panther passant guardant sable. There is not a CD between passant and herissony. Furthermore, the cat was not identifiable against the vair field.

Mercedes Amici. Name.

The submitter documented the given name from De Felice, I Nomi Degli Italiani; however, De Felice notes that Mercedes entered Italy from Spain. Because Mercedes is not found in Spain until well after 1600, the name could not have been found in period Italy.

Adelheid von Katzenellenbogen. Badge. Gyronny Or and sable, an ermine spot counterchanged.

The counterchanging of the ermine spot rendered it unidentifiable. In general one should avoid counterchanging over a gyronny field.

Avacal, Principality of. Order name Order of the Griffin's Flame.

A flame is not an attribute associated with a griffin, therefore we need to see evidence that Griffin's Flame is a reasonable name for an order.

Bear Mountain, Canton of. Branch name and device. Per pall inverted azure, argent and vert, in chief two laurel wreaths counterchanged.

These are returned because the petitions contained neither the group name nor a description of the device.

The submitters should be informed that there is little evidence that mountain was used in this form as a place name element in period. They may want to consider the considerably more authentic name Bearmont instead.

Fionn Ua Néill. Device. Vert, a chess pawn argent, a chief argent fretty vert.

The Pictorial Dictionary of Heraldry states that the standard modern depiction of chess pawns, as seen here, was not found in period. Therefore this must be redrawn using a period form of chess pawn.

Fionn Ua Néill. Badge. Per saltire vert and argent, a chess pawn within a mascle throughout counterchanged.

The Pictorial Dictionary of Heraldry states that the standard modern depiction of chess pawns, as seen here, was not found in period. Therefore this must be redrawn using a period form of chess pawn.

Juliana Kendal. Device. Or, a Kendal flower proper within a bordure rayonny gules.

The Kendal flower, when proper, is a six petaled rose of alternating argent and gules petals. This makes it a variant of a Tudor rose, as the Tudors combined white and red roses in various manners. Tudor roses are restricted charges and cannot be registered.

Madhu Brahman. Name.

There are two problems with the name. First we would like to see some evidence of interaction between 3rd through 6th century India and Europe. Second, it was the feelings of the College that Brahman denotes a high enough caste that the use of the name is presumptuous. We would need to see evidence that Brahman implied status no higher than gentry in Europe.

Kassandra vom Rhein. Name and device. Per bend sinister Or and vert, a stag’s head erased contourny proper and a grapevine fructed argent.

No forms were included with the submission.

Aodhnait Máire Siobhàn ní Nuanáin. Device change. Per pale azure and vert, a cat sejant argent striped sable maintaining a needle argent threaded Or.

Conflict with Jordre Pargon of Windhover's Reach, Azure, a snow leopard sejant argent, spotted sable, and Louis-Philippe Mitourard, Per bend sinister gules and azure, a striped silver tabby cat sejant guardant proper. There is no difference given for the change in the markings or for the maintained needle, so there is only a single CD for the field.

Arn Hold, Barony of. Badge for the Order of the Amethyst Chalice. (Fieldless) A chalice purpure.

Conflict with the badge for Dorcas Dorcadas, Or, a goblet purpure, jeweled proper. The jewels contribute no difference so there is only a single CD for fieldlessness.

Arn Hold, Barony of. Badge for the Order of the Cercle d'Honneur. (Fieldless) An annulet Or.

Conflict with Vladimir Vitalievich Volkov, Per pale argent ermined purpure and purpure, an annulet Or. There is only a single CD for fieldlessness.

Arn Hold, Barony of. Order name Order of the Gaudium Alces.

First, the grammar is incorrect — the name should be Gaudium Alcis. More importantly no evidence was given, nor could any be found, to indicate that Joy of the Moose matched any known naming pattern for order names.

Arn Hold, Barony of. Order name Order of Le Pomme d'Or and badge. Purpure, an apple Or.

Conflict with the Palme d'Or, the award for best film at the Cannes Film Festival. As one of the very few international awards known in America, we consider it important enough to protect, and there is insufficent difference in sounce between Pomme and Palme.

The badge conflicts with Adelicia Gilwell, An apple Or. There is only a single CD for fieldlessness.

Yin Mei Li and Marie Lorraine de Montclair. Joint household name Thorne House and badge. (Fieldless) Three thorns in pall inverted, points to center, argent.

Conflict with Thornhold, registered to Ciorstan MacAmhlaidh. As hold is the designator, it does not contribute difference.

The thorns were unidentifiable. Because we know of no instances of thorns being used as solitary charges we do not know if it is possible to have identifiable thorns without the context of a plant. Being in pall further reduced their identifiability.

The Administrative Handbook does limit joint registration to a couple but does not define the term (and the term is used very loosely, i.e., the rules do not specifically say that badges and household names can be registered by more than one individual, they just indicate how the name or badge should be referenced when registered by a couple). A couple does not require that the two people be of different sex, and as we do not inquire as to the exact relationship in general we do not do so here. We do, however, intend to alter the Administrative Handbook to be clearer on the issue and to allow registration of joint badge by any two (but no more than two) individuals.

Catharine Grenewode. Name.

Conflict with the registered name Caitlin of Greenwood. When pronounced correctly, the only difference in sound is the very minor difference between an r and an l and sometimes the difference between a t and a th. Neither change is sufficient difference.

Elisabeth MacAlester of Kintyre. Device change. Per pale argent and azure, three fleurs-de-lys within a bordure counterchanged.

The fleurs-de-lys were not drawn as any known form of fleur-de-lys and were indeed not recognizable as such. This is being returned for redrawing.

Findlaech MacAlasdair. Device. Gules, a compass between three fleurs-de-lys Or, a bordure per pale and per saltire Or and sable.

The fleurs-de-lys were not drawn as any known form of fleur-de-lys and were indeed not recognizable as such. This is being returned for redrawing. It would also be much better if the submitter used a bordure compony.

Jacquetta Edington of Yorkshire. Device. Purpure, a goblet, in chief a rose issuing two slips fesswise leaved one to dexter and the other to sinister Or.

There were many attempts in the commentary to blazon the charges in chief; the above being the best attempt; however, even this blazon cannot adequately describe the charges, indicating that the charges cannot be blazoned in a reproducible manner.

Mahieu Griffaud. Device. Per pale sable and argent all semy-de-lys counterchanged, a sword inverted azure.

Because half of the long axis of the blued sword is placed on a black background its visibility to the point where it became unidentifiable.

Máille ingen Bhrain Cadal. Badge. Azure, a demi-lion couchant guardant contourny Or, maintaining an equal-armed Celtic cross sable.

The maintained charge is not visible on the azure field. While we do not require good contrast between a maintained charge and the field, the charge must still be somewhat identifiable.

Marion le Red. Device. Per fess azure, fretty argent, and azure, in base a daisy palewise argent, seeded Or.

There is no evidence of any use in period of fretty that arbitrarily stops in the middle of the shield.

Octavia Columella. Device. Per pale gules and argent, a column counterchanged.

Laurel precedent has long forbidden counterchanging long skinny objects along its long axis.

Silence de Cherbourg. Device. Vert, a saltire Or fretted with a serpent in mascle argent.

Conflicts with the Confederation of the Fret, Per saltire argent and ermine, a fret Or, fimbriated sable. There is a CD for the field, but the primary charge group is too close to a fret for there to be a second difference.

Eridana Ambra Dragotta. Badge. (Fieldless) A compass star elongated to base pierced quarterly Or and argent.

Current precedent is that we only allow the piercing of charges on fieldless badges when those charges were found pierced in period armory (thus disallowing omni-tinctured tertiary charges). While a compass star is closely related to a mullet, it is nevertheless a different charge, one not found in period armory. Therefore we are not inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt and allow it to be pierced as we would a mullet or spur rowel.

Jenny O’ Shaughnessy. Name.

We could find no evidence, and none was provided, that Jenny is a period name. Her armory was registered under the holding name Amy of Calafia.

Dugald MacRath. Name.

Conflict with the registered name Dougal MacRae. The documentation for the name implies that both names, being variants of each other are pronounced similarly.

Celestine de Chatham. Device. Vert chapé sable, a quatrefoil and in chief two crosses fleury Or.

Listed on the LoI as having a per chevron line of division, the location of the line of the division and the relative sizes of the charges makes this an example of chapé. Therefore, it must be returned both for using a low contrast chapé field and for charging its upper portions. If it were redrawn as Per chevron sable and vert, two crosses fleury and a quatrefoil Or, then it would conflict with Pádraig Ó Deághaidh, Per chevron sable and vert, two Celtic crosses and a stag's head cabossed Or. There is a CD for changing the type of the primary charges, but the difference between a Celtic cross and a cross fleury, while significant enough for a CD, is not substantial enough for X.2, Difference of Primary Charges, to apply.

Dairine of Oak Hill. Device. Per pale sable and argent, on a gout three gouts, one and two, all counterchanged.

This is being returned for a redraw. The primary and tertiary charges are not drawn as gouttes, which have a distinctive neck.

Easaraigh, Shire of. Device. Per pale vert and Or, a sun in his splendor within a laurel wreath counterchanged.

We have returned a number of laurel wreaths that are actually two sprigs in saltire in the past. This device has the same problem; a laurel wreath should be a wreath; i.e., it should be circular or nearly so. This must be returned for redrawing. Also, while not grounds for return, please inform the submitters that the rays of a sun usually fill the available space on the outline of the center orb.

Eric Raven. Name.

Conflict with the registered name Eric Ravn. His armory was registered under the holding name Eric of Forth Castle.

Ginevra Bagnesi da Diacceto. Badge. (Fieldless) Two swans naiant addorsed conjoined and issuant from base, wings elevated and addorsed, argent charged with three chevronels braced vert.

Fieldless badges cannot be issuant from base as there is no base to issue from. Also, the combination of conjoining and charging with chevronels may be considered two weirdnesses by themselves. Lastly, please insure that the chevronels, if used, are placed entirely on the swans.

Gylmyne Ardrossane. Device. Argent, a dragon segreant vert breathing flaming gules within a bordure azure.

Conflict with Erik of Flamewood, Argent, a wyvern erect vert maintaining an oak leaf and a fireball gules, and Minimoto Akataro, Argent, a dragon rampant vert holding in the dexter forepaw a Latin cross trefly Or. In both cases there is nothing for the maintained charges, and there is no difference given between a wyvern and a dragon (the wyvern being simply a continental variant of the dragon), therefore there is only one CD for the addition of the bordure.

Meridies, Kingdom of. Name for the Royal University of Meridies.

With the exception of the University of Atlantia, registered in 1982, and the Royal University of Ithraall examples of universities are listed as references, not registered names. Therefore, we consider the name to be generic and thus not needing registration.

Talmere, Shire of. Device. Azure, two sea stags addorsed in saltire, tails entwined, within a laurel wreath, a chief wavy argent.

The emblazon shows two laurel branches, not a laurel wreath. The branches of a laurel wreath must be conjoined at the base and be circular or nearly so.

Uilleag Ó Conmhaic. Device. Or, a wolf sejant ululant sable within a bordure azure.

Conflict with Katla der Kenntnisreich, Or, a dog rampant sable maintaining a recorder proper, a bordure azure. There is only a single CD for the posture of the canine.

Istria. Arms. Azure, a goat statant Or, armed, unguled, and langued gules.

The consensus of the College was that Istria was neither independent nor important enough to protect.

Mungo Amadan Mor. Name.

No evidence was given showing that Mungo was ever used except as a nickname of the 6th century saint. We will accept the documented devotional form Cosmungo, but not the name itself barring evidence of its use as a given name (and not a nickname) in period.

His armory was registered under the name Todd of Esfenn.

Ezabell de Vaux. Device. Gules, on a bend argent between two crescents and a tree Or, three shamrocks palewise vert.

The original blazon gave the tincture of the shamrocks as sable.
