For the March 2005 meetings, printed May 31 2005

To all the College of Arms and all others who may read this missive, from Elisabeth Laurel, Gwenllian Wreath, and Margaret Pelican, greetings.

The March Laurel decisions were made at the Pelican meeting held on Saturday March 26, 2005 and the Wreath meeting held on Saturday, March 19, 2005. The April Laurel decisions were made at the Pelican meeting held on Saturday April 16, 2005 and the Wreath meeting held on Saturday, April 23, 2005. The meetings considered the following letters of intent: Ansteorra (17 Dec 04), Caid (17 Dec 04), Meridies (19 Dec 04), Atlantia (23 Dec 04), Drachenwald (23 Dec 04), Laurel (23 Dec 04), Middle (23 Dec 04), Atenveldt (25 Dec 04), Artemisia (27 Dec 04), Outlands (27 Dec 04), Lochac (28 Dec 04), West (28 Dec 04), Atlantia (30 Dec 04), and Northshield (30 Dec 04).

The May Laurel decisions will/were made at the Pelican meeting held on Sunday, May 15, 2005 and the Wreath meeting held on Saturday, May 28, 2005. The meetings considered the following letters of intent: Ansteorra (20 Jan 05), Laurel (20 Jan 05), An Tir (21 Jan 05), Atlantia (21 Jan 05), Drachenwald (22 Jan 05), Atenveldt (23 Jan 05), East (24 Jan 05), Æthelmearc (25 Jan 05), West (25 Jan 05), Outlands (27 Jan 05), Caid (28 Jan 05), Lochac (28 Jan 05) and Trimaris (31 Jan 05).

Not all letters of intent may be considered when they are originally scheduled on this cover letter. The date of mailing of the LoI, date of receipt of the Laurel packet, or other factors may delay consideration of certain letters of intent. Additionally, some letters of intent received may not have been scheduled because the administrative requirements (receipt of the forms packet, receipt of the necessary fees, et cetera) have not yet been met.

REMINDER: Until all administrative requirements are met, the letter may not be scheduled.

From Laurel: Cover Letter Changes

You will notice that the table showing the status of the various Letters of Intent has been replaced by an abbreviated text summary, as seen above. There were technical problems in reproducing the table, and a number of people found it hard to use. So until further notice, we will be using the present format.

From Laurel: LoAR subscriptions

Also, as of this month we will no longer be accepting new subscriptions to the paper LoAR. No one should be unduly inconvenienced because hardly anyone is using this service any more. A paper copy may still be requested on a month by month basis, if desired. Please see below for details.

From Laurel: Draft Precedents Available

For the edification and convenience of the College, the precedents from the tenure of Shauna of Carrick's Point and the second tenure of François la Flamme may presently be found at http://www.cet.com/~sewensel/sca_heraldic_precedents.html

Also, note that the draft precedents from the first tenure of François la Flamme have been moved to http://www.farreaches.org/~mranc/

From Wreath: On the proper tinctures of bees and grapes

The question of proper tinctures for both grapes and bees has arisen on several occasions recently. Neither of these charges are found in the list of conventional proper tinctures in the Glossary of Terms, but both do have defined proper tinctures. The proper tincture for bees is defined in precedent as "sable and Or, with argent wings" (Aideen the Audacious, September 1993). Regarding grapes, A Glossary of Terms Used in Heraldry, by James Parker, says on p. 602 (s.n. Vine), "When blazoned proper the leaves should be vert, the fruit purpure."

Roster Changes

The correct e-mail address for Shauna of Carrick Point (Laurel staff) is shauna@bresnan.net, previously listed as her alternate address.

Johan Magnusson Kivisuo, Vesilehti Herald (Drachenwald) was incorrectly identified as Edelweiß in the notes under his entry and under the entry for Jaelle of Armida, Argent Snail (Laurel staff).

Cormac Mór is now Bellows Pursuivant (Caid). He has also moved. His new contact information is ...; e-mail: bellows@castle.org. He prefers to receive LoIs and LoCs through the electronic list.

Gwalchrhi ferch Llywellyn, Ensign Herald (Trimaris), is removed from the roster because all mail to the listed address is being returned as non-deliverable.

Golden Wing Herald (Artemisia) is Tanglwyst de Holloway; her given name was misspelled on the roster.

The new Black Lion Principal Herald (An Tir) is Christopher Thomas ... e-mail: nomad+sca@castle.org and is added to the roster and mailing list. He was previously on the roster as Queue Forchee (An Tir). Please put him down for electronic LoIs and LoCs. The previous Black Lion, Fredrick Badger is removed from the roster and mailing list.
