Not all letters of intent may be considered when they are originally scheduled on this cover letter. The date of mailing of the LoI, date of receipt of the Laurel packet, or other factors may delay consideration of certain letters of intent. Additionally, some letters of intent received may not have been scheduled because the administrative requirements (receipt of the forms packet, receipt of the necessary fees, et cetera) have not yet been met. REMINDER: Until all administrative requirements are met, the letter may not be scheduled. **** From Laurel - Updates on OSCAR **** I am often asked "When are we going to start using OSCAR for real?" The answer is that we are already using OSCAR for real. Letters of Intent are being posted, they are being commented on, and these comments are being used in decisions. The real question is "When will the paper go away?" The current procedure is that OSCAR commentary is printed out and mailed, just like any other commentary. The Administrative Handbook requires that commentary be mailed. Because of this, the Admin Handbook must be changed before we can finish the transition away from paper. First, though, all Letters of Intent must be entered into the system every month. Submissions heralds should already be doing this. For those that are not, please start doing so as soon as possible. The next step in the transition will be the requirement that LoIs must have been entered into OSCAR before decisions on that letter will be made. This will join the requirement that the packet and payment have been received. The more comfortable people become with the system, the more prepared they will be when this requirement is implemented. If you have problems with the system or suggestions to improve usability, please contact Istvan Blue Tyger directly and copy me. Istvan has added some new functionality to the OSCAR system. Most of these are minor updates to make it easier to navigate from commentary to the Letter of Intent or to the paired item when using the 'comment' interface. Some of these changes are responses to user feedback, such as hiding email addresses when mailing a LoI notification to those that have requested it and the addition of a complete copy of the roster, available to CoA members. Also, lack-of-use timeouts have been extended from one hour to two. The system is also now able to generate XML that should facilitate production of the LoAR. This is a great step forward to making the production of the LoAR less labor intensive for Laurel staff, another major goal of OSCAR. Again, OSCAR is only as good as its usability. If you have issues, please do speak up. **** From Laurel - Thanks to Palimpsest **** Herald's Point at Pennsic this year was run by Juliana Palimpsest, who, as one might expect, did a stellar job in the face of long hours, a record number of paid submissions and a few less heralds than one might have wished. To her, and all her numerous assistants, the Laurel office owes many thanks, as do the hundreds of submitters who came through the Point. The organization and hard work it takes to generate so many name and armory submissions under such conditions is both impressive and a real pleasure to watch. **** Roster Changes **** *** Ansteorra *** * Gunnvor Silfraharr ... is no longer Bordure Herald (external submissions), and is no longer on the roster or mailing list. * The new Bordure Herald is Emma de Fetherstan (Jennifer Smith), previously rostered as Asterisk Herald (internal submissions).
