The date of mailing of the LoI, date of receipt of the Laurel packet, or other factors may delay consideration of certain Letters of Intent. REMINDER: Until all administrative requirements are met, the letter may not be scheduled. **** From Laurel - New Codex Herald **** The position of Codex Herald (maintainer of the Laurel web site) has now been filled. The new Codex will be Lord Robin Gallowglass, who can be reached at codex-herald@sca.org. Please remember to copy Laurel on any requests or suggestions for the web site. Again I would like to express my thanks to the outgoing Codex, Lord Meradudd Cethin, for his long and much-appreciated service. **** From Laurel - Education Deputy Position Still Open **** As I mentioned in the May cover letter, I am still looking for an education deputy. Heraldic education of new heralds (and continuing education for the not so new) is important, but so is the education in heraldic matters of the general populace. A Laurel staff member who could help coordinate the efforts of the various Kingdoms in this regard, and serve as a central source of information, would be a great help in achieving this. I am still accepting applications. If you are interested, contact me at herald@sca.org. I intend to fill this position in the coming month, so don't delay. **** From Laurel - This Month at OSCAR **** The latest feature of interest on OSCAR is that now pictures may be incorporated into commentary. This useful capability is obviously important for armory commenters, and another step toward making sure the electronic system can handle the College of Arms' requirements. Another new feature is a preference that some commenters have asked for: if you clear the 'Display Comments' checkbox, you will not see other's commentary. This is of use for those who like to comment on the entire LoI before they see anyone else's comments. Once again, with feeling -- OSCAR commentary is only as good as its source material, i.e., the Letters of Intent. External submissions heralds are very strongly encouraged to post their LoIs to OSCAR, or see to it that this is done. I hope I have made it clear by now that the day is coming when this will not be optional. Get started now. If you have any problems with the system -- you feel intimidated by it, want better instructions on how to use it, etc. -- you have only to say so and we will make every effort to resolve them. **** From Pelican - Changes to Alternative Titles for Turkish **** In March 2006, Ursula Georges submitted a Letter of Intent to change the Turkish alternative title for King. The letter contained two titles found used for the Sultan Suleyman the Great, and provided two alternative transliterations for each title. We have chosen to accept only a single transliteration of each name -- the ones that use standard Roman characters. Thus, the new alternative titles for King in Turkish are Sultan [given name] Khan and Sultan [given name] Shah. The old alternative title for King in Turkish, Krall is released. In her LoI, Ursula notes: appears to be a misspelling of the modern Turkish word , which is related to and , which appear in the Polish and Czech lists of alternate titles. Though may have been borrowed into Turkish by the end of our period to describe Eastern European kings, I have not found any evidence that it was ever used to describe Turkish rulers. **** Roster Changes **** A new Lymphad Herald, external submissions for Trimaris, was listed in the June Cover Letter. Her current information, with corrections and changes italicized: Ilene Johnnestoune (Samantha Steff), 8405 Singapore Ct, Orlando, FL 32817-1525 ...; e-mail herald.Ilene@gmail.com; prefers LoI: e-list, LoC: e-list. She is on the roster and the mailing list. Meradudd Cethin (Tim Shead) is no longer Codex Herald (Laurel web minister). He remains on the roster and the mailing list as Liber Herald, Outlands. The new Codex Herald is Robin Gallowglass (David Weiner), ... e-mail codex-herald@sca.org. He is added to the roster but not the mailing list. **** Send What to Whom **** For all Letters of Intent, Comment, Response, Correction, et cetera, send one paper copy directly to each of the Sovereigns of Arms, Laurel, Pelican and Wreath at their mailing addresses as shown on the College of Arms Roster. Send Laurel office copies of all submissions-related paper, including * Letters of Intent, Comment, Response, Correction, et cetera (note: such paper copies are in addition to the personal copies for Laurel, Pelican and Wreath mentioned above) * Submission packets (one copy of each name form plus documentation, including petitions; two colored copies of each armory form plus two copies of any associated documentation, including petitions) to the SCA College of Arms, PO Box 31755, Billings, MT 59107-1755.
