For the April 2022 meetings, printed May 30, 2022

To all the College of Arms and all others who may read this missive, from Emma Laurel, Elisabetta Pelican, and Oddr Wreath, greetings.

* From Laurel: Call for Applications for Wreath Sovereign of Arms

Wreath is an unpaid position, currently requiring approximately 10 hours a week. Some knowledge of period heraldry is useful; knowledge of SCA heraldry is essential. The position requires considerable tact and patience, research and reasoning ability, a clear understanding of the Standards for Evaluation of Names and Armory and past Laurel rulings, the ability to write clearly and succinctly, the ability to work within tight deadlines and coordinate closely with Pelican, Laurel and other staff to produce a Laurel Letter of Acceptances and Returns monthly, computer literacy and word processing skills, reliable e-mail and telephone access, and time and ability to travel. Given the current structure of the office, a high-speed internet connection is required.

Resumés must be sent electronically to Laurel at [email protected]. Resumés must be received by December 1, 2022, with an expected start date of spring 2023, to be determined with the Laurel staff.

Please send information about happenings to major heralds and major happenings to all heralds to Laurel, so that it can be published here.

At the end of April, Alizan de la Fontaine stepped down as Vesper Principal Herald of the West kingdom. Many thanks for her service, particular during an extended tenure due to the pandemic! In her place now is Antonio Giordano da Sicilia, who we're sure will do great things.

On May 7, 2022, at their Crown Tourney, Ryouko'jin and Indrakshi, King and Queen of the East, inducted Conn mac Branáin into the Order of the Silver Crescent (Grant-level service award). Conn is a hard-working herald who has served as Icicle Pursuivant for the Barony of Ruantallan and local herald for the Canton of Ynys y Gwaun, among other things.

On May 21, 2022, before commencement of Their Crown Tournament, Sven and Rauokinn, King and Queen of An Tir, summoned Sarra the Brave that she might step down from the office of Löwenmähne Herald (Field heraldry). At that time, Their Majesties invited and elevated her into the Order of the Pelican in recognition of her long years of service to both the scribal and heraldic arts in An Tir, as she departs for a new life in Calontir.

Shortly thereafter, Their Majesties Sven and Rauokinn also invited Cormac Mór, Argent Scroll Herald of An Tir, into the Order of the Jambe de Lion, the kingdom's grant-level award for the arts and sciences.

Later that day, Their Majesties Sven and Rauokinn elevated Kattera Giese, previously Argent Scroll Herald (Education), Town Crier Herald, and Terpsichores Fox Herald (Names), to the Order of the Pelican. Kattera has long served the kingdom as a herald in various capacities, and has worked to champion and improve the experience of newcomers to the Society.

Additionally, Their Majesties Sven and Rauokinn elevated Dagrun Stjarna, voice herald in the Barony of Wastekeep, to the Order of the Pelican, in recognition of her long and varied services to the kingdom.

Finally, Their Majesties Sven and Rauokinn elevated Etan Moira MacNessa, Sable Loat Pursuivant of the Barony of Lions Gate, to the Order of the Laurel.

On May 28, 2022, at the Egil's Tournament in the Barony of Adiantum, Their Majesties Sven and Rauokinn, King and Queen of An Tir, elevated Michael Leyland Sinclair, scribe and recipient of the Royal Scribe's Favor, to the Order of the Pelican.

On May 29, 2022, at the Grand Outlandish Tournament in the Barony of al-Barran, Their Majesties of the Outlands Barekr and Beatrice elevated Æðeluulf munuc, White Stag Principal Herald, to the Order of the Pelican.
