THE FOLLOWING SUBMISSIONS ARE APPROVED:

KINGDOM OF ANSTEORRA

Edward of Chesterfield. Name only.

Girard Antoine de Beauchamps. Name only.

Godwin of Edington. Name only.

Marguerite de la Souche. Name only.

Meralee of Stargate. Holding name and device. Sable, a red-haired female savage proper, above its dexter palm a trefoil, between two flaunches argent each charged with a goblet sable.

This submission was made under the name Olwen o Bryn Cribog Morynion, which name was returned in the LoAR for February, 1990. The submittor should be warned that the name Olwen may not be combined with the use of trefoils on armory.

Sorcha ní Fhaolain. Name only (see RETURNS for device).
Submitted as Sorcha ni Faolain. Use of the feminine patronymic particle causes aspiration.

Tadhg Liath of Duncairn. Device. Sable, an equal-armed celtic cross throughout and a chief Or.
[The blazon still falls within the submittor's own "ten-word blazon test" for armory.]

Talan Sharparrow. Name and device. Per chevron raguly argent and vert, two eagle's legs couped sable and an arrow inverted argent.
Vs. Walter Faversham (SCA), Per chevron embattled argent and vert, two walnut abacuses with ebony beads proper and a thunderbolt Or, rule X.2 applies: there is complete change of type of all the primary charges.

Valeria Richila Navarro. Name and device. Vert, a mermaid affronty, head to sinister, bearing a rapier and a buckler, within a bordure Or.

Volodymyr of the Black Isle. Name only.

Zaida an-Nasir. Name only.

KINGDOM OF TRIMARIS

Amurgorod, Shire of. Name and device. Pean, a sword inverted hilted of a triskele, within a laurel wreath argent, a bordure embattled Or.

Submitted as Amyergorod. The transliteration offered by the submitter appears to have been based on an incomplete understanding of the dictionary citations. As they did allow minor changes to grammar and spelling, we have registered the similar-sounding Amurogord ("city on the River Amur"). Please ask them to draw the laurel wreath so that it more completely surrounds the entire sword, rather than just the blade.

Aspasia Jeanne Cartier. Device. Azure, mullety argent, a bend sinister Or between a decrescent and a standing balance argent, a bordure Or.

Castillos del Oro, Los, Stronghold of. Name only (see RETURNS for device).

Feargus MacBruce. Name only.

There is some evidence of Bruce being used as a given name in period (Sir Bruce sans Pité in Malory's Morte d'Arthur), and for the Scottish patronymic particle was sometimes used with an English given name. Given those examples, the consensus of heralds at the meeting was that MacBruce was a permissible combination.

Godfried of Frisia. Change of name from Godfried von Ballard.
The name change was originally submitted as Godfried von Frisia. A letter requesting the locative particle to be modified to the "lingua franca" "of" was sent to Lady Laurel by the sumitting herald at the submitter's request.

Loch Gryffyn, Shire of. Name only.

Michel du Cygne Noir. Device. Per pale Or and argent, a legless swan rousant, wings elevated and addorsed, all within a bordure dovetailed sable.

Please ask the submitter to draw the bordure a little more boldly. The submitter should be told that, while clear, his device is very reminiscent of that of the Principality of Cynagua, Quarterly Or and argent, a swan rousant sable maintaining a laurel wreath vert.
;
Morgan Bloodaxe. Name only.

Parlan MacRonan. Name only (see PENDING for device).

Thorvald Hárslithi. Name only.

Submitted as Thorvald Harlithi, we have, as the submitter's form allowed, corrected the byname to the correct genitive form.

Trimaris, Kingdom of. Name for Order of the Argent Palm of Trimaris.
The addition of two independent modifiers clears this from Atenveldt's Order of the Palm per V.3.

Trimaris, Kingdom of. Name for Order of the Golden Galleon.

Victoria of Swansea. Device (appeal of previous return). Vert, a swan naiant proper within a bordure plumetty argent and sable.

Against van Juchen (Papworth p. 307), Vert, in water a swan naiant proper", there is a CVD for the change to type of secondary (base to bordure) and another for its tincture (barry wavy argent and azure to plumetty argent and sable).

Wyvernwoode, Barony of. Name for Order of the Wyvern's Scale.

THE FOLLOWING SUBMISSIONS ARE RETURNED:

KINGDOM OF ANSTEORRA

Rhiannon o Goed Niwlog. Badge. On a cross couped vert a compass star Or.

Conflict with Hussey (Papworth p. 658), Or, on a cross vert a mullet Or, as cited in the LoI. There is one CVD for fieldlessness, but only one change (of type) to the tertiary. Two changes are needed for the second necessary CVD. There is no difference between a cross and a cross couped on fieldless armory.

Sorcha ní Fhaolain. Device. Vert, a wolf passant between three mullets of seven points Or.
Conflict with Pudsey (Papworth p. 461), Vert, a chevron between three mullets Or. X.2 cannot be invoked here, so there is only one CVD for the change to the primary charge. No difference can be granted for the difference between standard mullets and mullets of seven points: they do not appear to have been considered as separate charges in period, nor are they different enough in outline to be so considered by the College.

KINGDOM OF TRIMARIS

Alfric Northwind. Badge. Azure, fretty, overall a compass star argent.

Conflict with the badge of the Barony of Rivenstar (SCA), Azure, a rivenstar argent. There is a CVD for the addition of the fretty to the field, but there was a clear consensus among those attending the meeting that there was not another for the difference between a rivenstar and a standard compass star.

Ana Isabel Barrios de Perez. Badge. Argent, a domestic cats paw print sable.
Submitted under the name Ana Isabel Barrios y Perez, this is the registered form of the submitter's name. The badge conflicts with Igor Medved (SCA), Argent, a bear's dexter pawprint azure (with only one CVD for tincture of the primary charge), Eric Bearsbane (SCA), Argent, on a bear's pawprint sable, a flaming sword proper (only one CVD for removal of the tertiary), and Rodrigo de los Lobos (SCA), Argent, on a wolf's pawprint sable, a crescent argent (same count as Eric Bearsbane). It has been previously ruled that there can be no difference given for type of pawprint (LoAR 21 February 1988, p. 11).

Castillos del Oro, Los, Stronghold of. Device. Azure, chapé ployé barry wavy argent and azure, a chevron ployé, in base a castle, overall a laurel wreath, and a chief embattled all Or.
This is far too "busy" for the period style we are trying to emulate. Additionally, charges should not overlie chapé lines of division; this submission has two that do, the chevron and the laurel wreath. Would they consider something simpler, along the lines of "Barry wavy argent and azure, a pale ..."?

Rurik Petrovitch Stoianov. Device. Gules, a saltire vair between three badgers heads affronte proper, one and two, in base two morningstars in saltire surmounted by a sword, all Or. (Meles meles)
Conflict with Bayleur (Papworth p. 1059), Gules, a saltire vair. There is only one CVD, for the addition of the secondaries. Additionally, this now exceeds the "Rule of Thumb" for complexity of VIII.1.a with four types of charges in five tinctures.

Trimaris, Kingdom of. Badge for Kingdom Historian. Azure, an open book argent charged with a triskele and an hourglass azure.
Conflict with Yale University (Neubecker), Azure, an open book argent charged with Hebrew letters sable. There is one CVD for the changes to the tertiaries. Two are needed. Making this a fieldless badge would clear that conflict.

Vaca del Mar, Shire of. Device. Argent, a Manatee erect to sinister proper between two flaunches sable, overall a laurel wreath counterchanged.
Flaunches should not be surmounted by charges (Wilhelm von Schlüssel, April, 1983; Alisoun MacCoul of Elphane, LoAR 23 April 1988, p. 16). The manatee on the emblazon form, while blazoned as "proper", was not colored in and so is "argent, chased sable" and metal on metal. If the color they actually desire is "proper", and proper for a manatee is a "dark bluish-gray", would they consider making the manatee simply "azure"?

THE FOLLOWING SUBMISSIONS ARE PENDED:

KINGDOM OF TRIMARIS

Parlan MacRonan. Device. Sable, a catamount rampant ermine, breathing flames gules, within a bordure argent charged in cross with four crosses couped gules.

The blazon submitted had a typo in the tincture of the primary (which is ermine, not ermined) and left out the tincture of the bordure. This is pended until the September meeting for additional conflict research.
