This article offers a short list of sources that may be useful for those researching pre-1600 names from the Indian sub-continent. Some of the source material is to be found in the University of California, Berkeley Library. These are mostly volumes of monumental inscriptions, generally organized by the ruling dynasty they are associated with (and hence with a particular region). Most of these are part of a series entitled Corpus inscriptionum indicarum (which, despite the Latin title, is in English). Not all of these fall in the relevant time period (e.g., vol. 1 is clearly identified as focussing on the 3rd century BC).
