Other Surnames
This is a list of "other" surnames from Isabel's account books
(late 15th c. Spain). (These are surnames which are not obviously patronymic
or locative surnames.)
When multiple spellings are given for a single
name, the most common variant is given first, with less common
variants in parentheses. The root meanings of some of these surnames are given
in italics. In the late 15th century, most Spaniards inherited
their surnames from their fathers, so these meanings probably did not apply
to the individuals who bore these names.
