Unto the members of the College of Arms and all others who may

Calontir (1/20), Atlantia (1/21), Caid (1/22), Middle (1/27),

was will be considered at a "roadshow" Laurel meeting
held on Sunday, April 12, in the Middle Kingdom.
The May Laurel meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 1992,
to consider the following Letters of Intent: West (11/14/91, 11/27/91,
and 12/30/91, which packets arrived in mid-February), East (2/5),
Outlands (2/6), West (2/11), An Tir (2/17), Caid (2/20), Ansteorra
(2/21), Middle (2/21), Atlantia (2/24), and Atenveldt (2/27),
with the Meridies (2/28) and Calontir (2/29) Letters of Intent
to be considered at a "roadshow" Laurel meeting to be
held in the Outlands on Sunday, May 17.
The June Laurel meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 1992,
to consider the Letters of Intent from March: East (3/5), Ansteorra
(3/8), Caid (3/19), Middle (3/20), Atlantia (3/22), Atenveldt
(3/27), Outlands (3/26), Calontir (3/28), Meridies (3/30), and
Ansteorra (3/30). Two Letters of Intent will be considered at
the Known World Heraldic Symposium in An Tir on Sunday, June 28,
1992: Trimaris (3/15) and An Tir (3/15). (All commentary for
LoIs being considered in June must be received by me before the
regularly scheduled Laurel meeting in June; commentary arriving
after the June 20 meeting or arriving at the Symposium will be
too late for consideration. (I'm going to be getting the files
ready for moving the week after the Symposium, and I simply won't
have the time to do anything with it.)
Commenters! Please remember that I need to receive both the file
copy and the "cut and paste" single-sided copy of all
commentary on February and March LoIs. Until June 28, I need
to receive the file copy of all commentary on April and later
LoIs, while the "cut and paste" copy goes to Bruce.
ROSTER CHANGES AND CORRECTIONS
Is there anyone in the College who has not yet heard that Lord
Treblerose (former Brigantia), Arval Benicoeur, is now a member
of the Order of the Pelican? Congratulations, Arval!
Mistress Zenobia Naphtali, former Crescent Principal Herald, has
a new title and address in An Tir. Please change her address
on your mailing lists to the following: Black Stag Herald, c/o
Leslie Schweitzer, 7645 S.W. Bonita Road #15, Tigard, OR 97224;
(503) 598-1066.
Lord Palimpsest, Baron Marten Bröker, has a new address.
It is: 1243 Willow Wood Drive, Kirkwood, MO 63122.
Oops! In the latest Roster, I accidentally left Sable Crane (Ansteorra)
off the mailing list. Please add him if you have not already.
Cyndcyrn Conn Corr (David Heiligmann), 419 Rio Seco, San Antonio,
TX 78232. If you know of any other errors on the Roster, please
let me know immediately!
Well, Lady AEstel let me know of an error even before this letter
went out! Her correct mailing address is: Elizabeth de
Rossignol (Lisa Mohr), P.O. Box 59821, Renton, WA 98058
Please remove Lady Elmet (East) from your mailing lists. Mundane
considerations are forcing her to take a sabbatical from commenting.
She will remain on the Roster, however.
Lord Ibis' (Atlantia) SCA name, left off the last Roster, is Herveus
d'Ormonde. Some gratulations are due him -- he was recently given
a Grant of Arms by the Atlantian Crown.
THE LAUREL OFFICE REVIEW (or, Something Else to
Read in Your Copious Free Time)
Enclosed is a copy of the review of the Laurel office presented
to the Board of Directors at the April Board meeting. I believe
it is pretty self-explanatory.
ANOTHER VOLUNTEER! (or, More Resource People)
Lord Stephan Calvert deGrey has volunteered his services to the
College to help with Arabic and Arabic names. Please add his
name and address to the list of volunteer consultants given in
the February 12, 1992 Cover Letter.

ANOTHER SOURCE FOR BOOKS! (or, Batten Down the
Checkbooks!)
I received a letter recently from an acquaintance in Trimaris
who has opened up a mail order bookshop. I don't normally advertise
for friends here, but he and his wife have completed an agreement
with Professor G. Fleck, author of "The Old Norse Name",
one of our standard sources. Professor Fleck feels he no longer
has the time to answer all the requests that he receives, and
so the responsibility for printing and selling this volume is
being taken over by Chuck and Carol Hack for their firm, Celtic
Traditions. The price is $3.50 (There is a $2.00 shipping fee
for the first item, $.50 for each additional item.) I am enclosing
a flyer with a listing of their other books on heraldry and names
and naming practices (and their address) for those
of you who may be interested.
MISCELLANY
"GRINNING LIKE A CHESHIRE CAT
Mr. Frank Keirl has discovered an explanation of this popular
saying. A lion rampant was the crest of an influential family
in the Cheshire District; and in adorning the ale-house sign boards
with this emblem, an itinerant painter executed it so unskilfully
that the monarch of the woods was often mistaken for a grinning
cat."

Until next month, I remain, as ever,
Your servant,
